Ive been told that in humid temperature, chaffing is easier to occurr therefore, skins would be beneficial.  I use mine (long and short) all the time at home and they not only help in chaffing but assist in recovery after a long day on the trek. I grew up knowing this man and found out that he served at kokoda and was very well regarded and respected.
