The ANZAC Pilgrimage – Kokoda to Owers’ Cnr is designed for the trekkers who would like to take it easier and see/experience Kokoda in more time. We understand the need for a cultural experience as well as learning more about the history of the war campaign.
|Day 1: ANZAC DAY 25TH APRIL – OWER’S CORNER – UA’ULE CREEK
|This ANZAC trek has been designed to avoid the crowds prior to Anzac Day as it will commence on the 25th April. Anyone booking this trek will need to fly into Port Moresby on the 24th April and overnight. The following day you will be picked up from your accommodation at 4am and driven out to Bomana War Cemetery for the 2018 Anzac Day Service. Following the service, trekkers will make their way to the Royal Papua Yacht Club where you will be able to relax, have something to eat and later head back to your hotel to book out and be driven out to Owers’ Corner for the commencement of your trek with a short walk down to Goodwater for the night.
|Day 2: UA’ULE CREEK – OFI CREEK
|The morning will commence with numerous creek crossings before a tough climb up to Ioribaiwa Ridge. This is the point during World War II where the Japanese retreated. It is now a steep descent down to Ofi Creek where you will enjoy your first lunch break and swim before setting up camp for the night.
|Day 3: OFI CREEK – AGULOGO
|This morning we will refill our water bottles for a steep couple of hours climb up Maguli Range before we reach Nauro Village. We stop here for lunch before heading down to Agulogo for the night.
|Day 4: AGULOGO – EFOGI
|Today will be an easy walk down to Brown River where you will cross with care as the river can be high depending on the rainfall they have experienced in that area. You will need to refill your water bottles for your next climb up Brigade Hill. At the top of Brigade Hill you will have a chance to take in some of the scenery from the lookout. After a short break we will then descend down to Efogi Village the half way point. At this point you should feel proud of yourselves as you reflect back on what you have experienced and to know you are half way across the track!
|Day 5: EFOGI – 1900
|Today will begin with a climb up to Efogi 2 another small village. This is followed by a steep descent to the first creek crossing of the day. We then start to climb up to the village of Naduri followed by another climb up to 1900 campsite area where we spend the night. Another alternative route is to head up to Kagi followed by a climb up to 1900. Some of our treks go via Naduri and some via Kagi.
|Day 6: 1900 – EORA CREEK
|From 1900 campsite we commence the day with a climb up to Mt Bellamy the highest point on the Kokoda Track. Weather permitting you will be able to look down as far as the Kokoda Station. Once we have taken a break we will then commence our walk down to Templeton’s Crossing I. This is followed by a short descent down to Templeton’s Crossing II where you will enjoy your lunch break. Following lunch we will then descend down to Eora Creek campsite to spend the night.
|Day 7: EORA CREEK – ISURAVA VILLAGE
|Today be begin the day with a descent to enable us to cross over Eora Creek following by a climb up to Alola Village where we will take a lunch break before walking towards Isurava Memorial the highlight of our trek. For the majority of us, this is an emotional experience having walked the track for the past few days and then
turn the corner into Isurava to a magnificent view and another photograph opportunity with the monument as a background. Also time to reflect on the past and pay our respect to the World War II and the many fallen soldiers who so tragically lost their lives in this area. We then head down to Isurava Village to spend the night.
|Day 8: ISURAVA VILLAGE – KOKODA
|This is our last day of trekking and an exciting time for all as the finish line is not that far away and the whole group is excited. We will have a few descents and climbs before reaching Hoi Village. After Hoi we will continue walking towards the archway in Kokoda. When we reach the Kokoda Archway, photographs will be taken to celebrate our successful trek. Once in Kokoda you will have the chance to take a break at the Kokoda Station and to visit the Kokoda Museum and historical memorial area.
