MemberIf you do take a pole (or poles) you should take the claw type attachments. The rubber tip will disppear in the first mud patch you get to. From memory, my claws also disappeared in the mud also.

MemberOur group of 12 trekkers (July 2009) raised funds for Legacy in Sydney.
It would be good if they could arrange a similar 'club' here.08/09/2009 at 8:35 am #102899tombar
MemberI think there is a sign there that states overnight camping only. Not sure if it's enforced as I never camped there.

MemberHi MTV,
I completed Kokoda in July this year and part of my training included Perrys to Lockleys Pylon and return. We did it in a day and also did Perrys to BGF and return twice in a day.
Another walk is Pierces Pass to Perrys and return – but there is about 4km of level walk between the climbs.
This type of training will come in handy for Kokoda, and I can recommend it as being the closest to Kokoda experience you can get close to Sydney.
Good luck, Tom.21/08/2009 at 5:02 am #102735tombar
MemberGail, that was a fantastic adventure for you.
Having trekked Kokoda in July, I can understand and believe what happened. Maybe, not so if I hadn't been there.
Congratulations for a vivid and exciting account of your experience.
Tom.

MemberHi Peter,
As you know, we are also leaving Sydney on 11th July to trek Kokoda to Owers Corner (12 in the group). We have trained by doing Berowra station to Berowra Waters then to Valley lookout (about 2km short of Cowan station) and return to Berowra via Berowra Waters. It's 20km return.
Also, last Sunday, most of us did Perrys Lookdown to Blue Gum forest – twice.
We think we are getting there23/03/2009 at 11:36 am #101776tombar
MemberCorrection to previous response: we leave SYD for POM on 11th and fly into Kokoda on 12th for trek back to Owers Corner.

MemberNo, not me but possibly from our group.
Next Sunday (29th) we are walking from Mt. Kuring Gai station to Berowra Waters then back to Cowan. It's 16km. If you are interested in joining us, let me know on tbarnes@ozemail.com.au22/03/2009 at 7:37 am #101769tombar
MemberHi Peter,
Are you going via Perrys Lookdown? I understand we need to be able to do it twice in a day to be "Kokoda comfortable"

MemberHi Anthea,
I'm part of a group trekking Kokoda in July. We regularly do training walks in the Blue Mountains, with the next one on Sunday February 1st. You are welcome to join us. We will be walking down Pearces Pass to the Blue Gum Forest then back with a possible jaunt up and down Perrys Lookdown. Tom.
