I would have no concerns about trekking again,,this is just one of those things that happens from time to time. The flight in , or out is part of the overall experience.Still, its an absolute tradgedy, but I really hope that it doesnt put people off trekking kokoda, its a wonderful experience and something to be proud of after youve done it.Rhonda…[Read more]

QUOTE(Efrat Nakash @ 21 Jul 2009, 06:25 AM) [snapback]9804[/snapback]Thank you all for your terrific tips. They are really helpful in preparing my upcoming trek.I would suggest reconsidering the idea of bringing balloons for kids. They explode quickly, leaving litters which degrade very slowly (if at all). I would suggest small notebooks and…[Read more]

We only used missed out on using a hut twice on our trek. But those that had dome tents set up there tents without the nylon flys inside the huts a couple of times. Its a good way to keep the mozzies off you in the lower lying areas..

Hi all. What Gail says is true about people reading the forum but not posting.Of the 8 trekkers in our group, I was only one who had posted, even though the others read the forum almost daily. It would be far more interesting if everyone just made even a litttle comment, rather than just the regular few.

We only stayed in our tents for 1 night on the whole trek. The biggest problem with animals on the trek comes from the village dogs, cats and rats

peterh13 replied to the topic Pack Weight in the forum General Discussions 17 years ago

I just got back from PNG 3 days ago, I carried my own pack, it was rough going but I managed to get through it ok.Carrying your own pack does give you a sense of acheivement but it also slows you down and you don't have a porter to help you over the rough stuff.I trained for a full year with about 18 kgs on my back every time I went for a walk or…[Read more]

I prefer the long ones myself. We all get wobbly legs, its just the strain and stress that we put them through walking over hill and dale with back packs on.

Hi craig. My wife and I got our self inflating sleeping mats from katmandou, when they had a 50% off sale.We got the full length ones although a lot of people prefer the 3/4 length.Your best bet is to go to the shops and try some out.Anaconda has a great selection as well and have sales all the time.

Hi fluppy. We all bought a set of skins each to walk in and they have made a huge difference. We no longer suffer from muscle pain either while we are walking or the day after, they are great. My son is in the military, he and all his mates wear them while on exercise in the scrub and swear by them.http://www.skins.net/au/en/default.aspxcheck them out.

Ive always walked without rain protection unless its very cold.I agree with the others about rain being better than sweat.
