MemberMake sure you have a comfortable pillow or something you can make in to one. I think everyone on our trek who didn't found it very difficult to sleep. To me that was more important than your mattress.

MemberAll you need is one pair of boardshorts (they dry quicker, and you will sweat heaps and there are rivers to swim in). I wore bike shorts under them to prevent chafing.
I had 2 t-shirts to walk in, and a long sleeve t-shirt and tracky pants for nights.
You only need one pair of boots if you've worn them in (i reckon an extra pair of runners is a waste of space and adding unnecessary weight) and a pair of thongs for nights.
If you're wearing bike shorts you don't even need jocks, so you can just take a pair of boxers to sleep in. And carry a few pairs of socks. I found ankle socks were comfortable and took up less space in my pack. I don't really think thick socks are necessary although it's a personal thing and the type of boot you're wearing will make a difference as to what you wear.26/08/2004 at 3:58 am #94568lynchy
MemberI carried my own pack and got caught out a bit as i hadn't done enough training with it on. Make sure you do some hill climbing with about 10 kgs in your pack – that's around about what mine weighed and it would be hard to make it any lighter.
The main problem i found though was not the weight – you get used to that – it was trying to retain my fluids, as you sweat heaps more carrying your own pack. You MUST drink heaps of water at night and before you set off in the morning or you will get dehydrated – you can't replace what you lose in sweat as you go.26/08/2004 at 3:52 am #94567lynchy
MemberI completed the track on Sunday and i feel that during the dry season all you need is a comfortable pair of boots or runners that you're used to. However we were lucky that it didn't rain at all as it would become boggy and slippery if it did. We saw one bloke with footy boots on!
