Unlucky you – they are a really nice addition to the trophy cabinet. Perhaps they have stopped doing it. I trekked 2 years ago now.

If you are trekking with Kokodatrekking they supply you with a hand carved pole that is just the right size. My advice is to spend the money to get some decent poles if you want to take your own. Perhaps – but sleeping in a tent is pretty much the same when it comes to separation. I would urge people that might be interested to try and lend one first. It can take a little getting used to in terms of sleeping positions.

Thought I would bump this as I now have some experience with camping hammocks (Hennessy Deluxe). I would have no hesitation taking one next time. The comfort level is far superior to tenting and these hammocks will easily survive the rain storms. The only considerations will be pack storage (just throw it in with porters gear). 5 liters is alot of water to be carrying. I would ditch the 2 one liter containers and maybe carry a 600ml external for mixing (Tang – Gatorade – whatever) . There is plenty of water to be had on the trek. Is it close to walk – yep. Would I – not a chance in hell.The hotel has a bus that runs pretty constantly. I got in at 12.30 am and was at the hotel about half an hour later.

I did the track last october and carried my own. I plan to do it again in a years time in the opposite direction. I will definitely opt for a porter the next time around.

The only time you might get cold is up around 1900. Half the time you will sleep in a long house (mattress and pillow) and the camping areas are generally cleared.I`ve just come back and it was stinking hot in the open. Jan-Feb would probably be unbearable.

The Comfort inn is quite a way from the airport – not sure if they do a shuttle like the Gateway. The Gateway is a good choice – It`s central to the Airport and also pretty close to the Cemetery dependant on which way you are trekking.

Not sure I would bother with the staminade – it gets a little sickening after a while. Something like tang would have been better.+1 for hiring the porter. I carried my own (with some help in places) and reckon I wasted the last few days struggling when I should have been enjoying the surrounds.

Probably 200 kina in fives will be enough. Everything cost 5 kina – Coke – Solo – Pineapple – Banana bunch. You`ll go nuts in the Kokoda store if thats the way your heading. There is an ATM behind immigration at the Airport and they will change money at the hotel (but they will give you 50`s)

Not strict no. I`d be careful with the P Forte without a prescription though. Pay your Visa – get out of my face type stuff.
