Later in the year we heard they desperately needed a lawn mower and that the school children were cutting the grounds with bush knives, again Kokoda Trekking came to the party and donated a lawn mower:lawnmower.jpg

In January 2005 we had delivered to our home on the Gold Coast a donation of teacher resource materials. We paid the freight to PNG and onto Kokoda. The teachers of Kokoda Primary School were thrilled to receive them which made the whole exercise worthwhile:Books_for_Kokoda_Primary_School.jpg

In 2006 we donated goods to the villagers along the track by way of tarpaulins; water containers; cooking pots and utensils; shower room; hot water shower bags; mattresses to Efogi Guesthouse and so on. As seen here in the background of this photograph, Ioribaiwa Villagers draped it over their guesthouse roof to help keep trekkers dry:Tarpaulin.jpg

Trek with us and you can be sure that something goes back to the community. In 2004 our first year of operation we purchased a PMV (Public Motor Vehicle) Truck for the use of driving villagers from Kokoda down to Popondetta to the bank and to sell their market goods. It also serves our trekker needs.KTL_1_Back_Version.jpeg

On the 19th September, a wonderful surprise as we met up with the family and friends of one of our first trekkers Anthony Lewis. When Anthony walked he met up with a young man from Alola Village with club feet who he told us he could help as it was his profession. He asked his sister Kathryn Lance – Trek 174 to trace his feet so that a pair of…[Read more]

In February this year I purchased a workhorse, a Toyota Troopcarrier and what a workload this vehicle has had to endure throughout our trekking season. The road to Ower's Corner would punish any vehicle but so far so good and it has not given us too many problems apart from the normal wear and tear:100_0568__Small_.jpg

Thanks must also go to my two daughters Mikayla (left) and Cheree (Right) who pack our food ration packs under the name of Food4Treks – http://www.food4treks.com.auCan you just imagine for one minute how much time and effort and packing has gone into feeding our 'hundreds' of trekkers. One of our porters asked a trekker what he felt he got out of the walk….he thought about it….then when we were handing out the t/shirt and certificate, he said that he never thought he would be holding onto the hand of a porter…..but he said it taught him that once he got over accepting the fact he needed help, his hand was held quite often…[Read more]

Louise Rath heard all about Kokoda Trekking from her husband who walked with us the previous year. In 2006 he stayed behind to babysit so Louise could walk along with her two friends Geneviev Johnstone and Amanda Marshall. Some trekkers such as Trek 184 walked in uniform as seen here at Bomana War Cemetery along with our KTL boys. Trek 184 also gave themselves a name 'Kokoda Konquest'Lou Gambrill would probably have won the contest for the most emails and what a character he turned out to be when we finally met up with each other….I could tell our KTL boys were…[Read more]
