Hi again, the latest from the trail in the past 10 minutes is that Lyall has sprained his ankle so is finding it tough. They have reached Isurava Battlesite Area where they will spend the night. Its all downhill from here on in but still quite steep and tough….worst case scenario, they carry him out as the boys can smell HOME SWEET HOME!!!…[Read more]

Hi everyone, tomorrow we will go out to pick up one of the trekkers who apparently wants to come out tomorrow instead of the following day. At this point we will know how all the others are going who should overnight tomorrow night at Goldie River according to a sat phone call from our guide heading in the opposite direction. If the road condition…[Read more]

LUCKY LAST and also the guy who wanted to drive our toyota troopcarrier today. He did really well and had obviously done this kind of thing before. He also gave me quite a few tips so before long the way I am going, I will be able to go rally driving in Australia in my time away from Kokoda TrekkingWalking_up_to_Vesulugo_4.jpg

The camera just kept on clicking until the last trekker came up to where I was standing. When you walk on this ground, the red clay mud sticks to your boots and its hard to remove it. At the moment its almost a full time job washing our vehicles:Walking_up_to_Vesulugo_3.jpg

Trekkers and porters giving a push…his went on for around an hour and they finally managed to get the truck back down the hill some 20 metres where it could be turned around. It was quite funny as female power from the village came into play. Out of the truck came some steel wire used for towing. I was thinking they might want it tied to the…[Read more]

Photograph: Our truck KTL 2 bogged in the mud on the way up to Vesulugo this morning 2nd May. The road at the moment with a little bit of rain on it is absolutely terrible. We passed trekkers heading back into Port Moresby with another company and their bus was waiting all the way down at McDonald's Corner. One young female trekker commented…[Read more]

Tarina also reported yesterday on the sat phone that some bad spirits had eaten our rice in Efogi and that there wasnt enough to go round the whole 3 groups of porters. You see there are good spirts and bad spirits according to the boys! A few weeks back our biscuits disappeared, now rice! Hence today our boys leaving from this end are also…[Read more]

Hi everyone, radios still not working so we are all relying on the bush telegraph and it seems to work.Yesterday however, our guide Tarina heading in the opposite direction towards Kokoda ran into the three groups coming this way and said they were all doing well.Apparently one guy wants to break away from the group and come back into town a day…[Read more]

So here we were back at the lookout and on either side an electricity wire crossing the road in two directions hence trapping us at the lookout. We saw another car come down from the Sogeri side and he must have been going slower as they noticed the wire and went back and reported it. Some 30 minutes later vehicles arrive and removed the wire…[Read more]

Just after driving off from this point, there was a huge bang which myself and the trekkers inside the troopcarrier did not hear but Russell and the porters/guide in the bus behind us did……..They came racing up behind us yelling and screaming with their horn blaring. Before we heard all of this we came across a electricity wire that was…[Read more]

Yesterday he phoned me by sat phone and gave me an update of their progress. He said two trekkers were doing it tough but were doing ok. They had made it to Nauro but had fallen behind schedule. This was discussed before they headed out and arrangements made so they could fly in at another date from Popondetta should this end up being the…[Read more]
