Waza replied to the topic Snakes And Comparison in the forum General Discussions 13 years, 8 months ago
Hi Can only agree with above comments re snakes on the Track, we did see one small black one, less than a mitre in length on probably Day 5, so in the Brigade Hill area, but that was all, my Brother & Nephew were more scared of a spider they saw, claiming it was the size of a bread plate in span. The Nephew being a brave 16 year old, poked the web…[Read more]

Hi GailWhat a great place, certainly fills the bill for a night before and after the Trek, as long as we can get Steak sandwich, a plate of hot chips and a cold SP (which we did in 2005) after a week of rations!Look forward to enjoying the hospitality in April/May next year.RegardsWaza

Hi JoI hadn't noticed your request earlier, but have read your correspondence to Gail and will download your Survey to complete for your studies.I will also ask my Daughter to complete one for you, as it may be beneficial for you to look at the different responses from the Son and Grand-Daughter of a person who who lived in pre-War PNG, was an…[Read more]
Waza replied to the topic Dome Swag V Tent in the forum Trek Preparation 13 years, 8 months ago
HiAll good comments from experience.I used a $14.95 2 man tent from Go-Lo, used it 4 times and gave it to Maurice my Porter at Owers. It wasn't waterproof but then it didn't rain of a night and I always slung a $4 tarp from Super Cheap Auto across the tent, held up by 2 poles at either end and one cross piece of timber, which left a good…[Read more]

Waza replied to the topic Walking Poles in the forum Trek Preparation 14 years ago
Hi DerekI used to use one when I trained and kept 'up-dating' my model until I finally got the one I really wanted. I smoohed it off a bit, sharpened the end a bit, drilled a hole and fed a long shoelace through to place over my wrist, wound a squash grip around the top and finally gae it 2-3 coats of clear varnish. I also (as mentioned by Sally)…[Read more]

Dear FluppyI can only agree with Mrs Moo and Brian with their thoughts on your concerns about perhaps not going. As most have said, the accident tragic as it is, is a rarity but never the less, possibly the flight INTO Kokoda is the part of the trip where there is more concern than the trek itself. Flying OUT of Kokoda is possible an alternative…[Read more]
