MemberHi jonnycash,
Thanks heaps for the info. Do you remember this mans name ? We leave in 6 weeks so maybe enough time for a letter or we might just do some sweet-talking. We wont be imposing, only need 10 square meters of grass to sleep on.
If you can put me in contact with this man that would be appreciated (we would obviously continue the respectful behaviour from the actual Kokoda track and do nothing to bring your name into disripute). Alawa looks to about 40km from Kokoda so that would be ideal.
Thanks again for the help, Stewart

MemberHi Fluppy,
Anywhere that sells kitchen appliances will sell them, I know Sunbeam make one. You could also try eBay – they are sometimes called vacuum food savers (make sure you also get bags). Alternativly you could ask a butcher if he/she could cryovac your goods for you for a few dollars or whatever. I have done this before – handy if you dont think you will need one again.
Good luck, Stewart

MemberHi Geoff,
Sorry for the misunderstanding, I thought you were pushing a tour company you were associated with but now understand you are only trying to offer help and suggestions. I fully realise tour companies are essential in the world of trekking and if they didn't exist, in-experienced people would probably attempt things they shouldn't on their own. Please accept my apology and I hope we can continue to exchange thoughts on this forum,

MemberHi Geoff, thanks for the info. I guess I misunderstood this forum. I thought it was a place where trekkers could ask questions and swap ideas about the trek – not be persuaded into using a tour company. We are a team of experienced trekkers – mostly from the Army and one registered nurse. We are also employing the services of an experienced guide to assisit with the 'cultural issues'.
So thanks again for your suggestions to use a tour company, however all I really wanted to know is there a camping store in Port Moresby to buy gas canisters ?Also, does anyone out there know of a forum where people can swap ideas and give advice about the Kokoda track without tour companies trying to persuade you ?
Thanks, Stewart

MemberHi Geoff, thanks for the reply.
I am not using a tour operator and I will require the gas for dehydrated meals. If anyone else has been in the same boat as me, please let me know what you did?
