QUOTE(Fluppy @ 29 Jun 2010, 11:13 AM) [snapback]11890[/snapback]Saloo88 – thank you for bringing that to my attention. I had not considered the environmental impacts this would have. I guess burning them in the campfire would also be out of the question – as polystyrene emits toxic chemicals into the atmosphere when burnt…However, if KTL also…[Read more]

How wonderful for the recipients and their families to receive such a gift! From such a tragedy, such goodness has come.

QUOTE(LeeRain @ 26 Jun 2010, 08:18 PM) [snapback]11880[/snapback]However, just today when I was out shopping, I thought of those noodle-in-a-cup things (the ones where you just add boiling water to the cup). They take up a fair bit of room, but are extremely light and disposable once used. I am thinking of taking some of these next time I trekThey…[Read more]

Good to know Peter. I was also pleasantly surprised by an Ebay purchased backpack not too long ago. The brand is Doldy (I hadn't heard of them but there is a website) and it is really strong and comfortable. It is only a daypack of 32 litres but it does have a rain cover! In fact I am lending it to my dad when we trek in August-it will be his…[Read more]

Hi Scott,That's a return trip from Martyr rd to the summit and back to Martyr road again, working at a good pace and if you have been doing the 1000 steps regularly, you shouldn't have any problems with doing it in 5 or under.I did the 1000 steps again this morning-it seems to be getting shorter every trip, so I must be doing something right with…[Read more]

Thanks Rocky. For what it's worth, the policy with AAMI has only cost me $43 so it is certainly well priced. Some other quotes I looked at ranged from $59-$250.

I have booked my travel insurance (AAMI) but having now read the fine print, it doesn't cover political unrest/war/revolutions etc… Not that I am planning on this happening! But I now wonder if I should change my policy to another company just in case. I have a 14 day cooling off period to decide.Apart from the above, it covers pretty much…[Read more]

Hmmm..seems to me the Courier mail (or the journo) hasn't done enough research. to not include Kokoda is a HUGE oversight! My grandfather was there-he passed away 13 months ago but I am sure not a day passed in his life when he did not relive some of what he went through. He spent his entire life staying silent about what he endured-it was too…[Read more]

Thanks for that Craig. I didn't know there were sachets available. I had planned to measure out individual dosages but pre packed sounds much easier and more durable than plastic bags.Good luck!

I have been trawling through these forums, trying to soak up as much information as I can before my trek in August.I wanted to add a comment in relation to the comments on Gatorade/Staminade etc…I was using Gatorade as an energy/rehydration style drink up until a few months ago, until I started talking to a friend who is a triathlete. He…[Read more]

Just weighing in on the pack issue. I have been procrastinating over my pack for 12 months! I move between spending more money on an updated pack or going with the one I have but am not sure if it is up for the task. Then recently I came across a hire store in Moorabbin in Victoria that hires out all sorts of gear, including packs for every…[Read more]
