    Jltheage,
I would be no more concerned than I am getting in my car each day and driving on our roads.
Unfortunately this is tragic accident and should not impact on anyone's decision to experience the magic that is Kokoda.
As an ex-trekker, my thoughts are with all of the families and friends.

    Hi Kerryn,
I trekked in September/October and trained through an Adelaide winter. Did all my training in a long sleeved sweatshirt, fleece & tracksuit, even at the gym (attracted many a strange look). The layers of sweaty clothing definitely helped with acclimatising to the heat and humidity.

    Fluppy,

I had 36 steps at work. Pretty much did 60-90 minutes up and down each day, with 11kgs on my back, and wearing a fleece and tracksuit. Was drenched with sweat at the end, and shed 13kgs in 10 weeks. Rather than doing for hours on end, try going two up/two down, and if your legs are long enough, three up/two down. This will make it easier once you hit some of the steeper hills in PNG.

I was way out of shape before I started (92kgs), but the 10-12 weeks of sticking to this training saw me through without any probs.

    Cheers Ian

    Hi Kristi,
I trekked with Brian, and the bug has got hold of me too. Looking forward to going back in the next year or two, this time to walk from Kokoda to Owers.
Brian, that snake is small compared to the one Wallace threw the axe at just as we were walking into Kokoda!
    Cheers Ian

    Hi Brian,

I just used the Gateway Hotels PO Box address, and had no problems with the visa being issued. Unless you are a resident of PNG, I don't think you need to even put a PNG address on the form. Just a copy of your itinerary is sufficient.
    See you in 7 weeks.

    Cheers Ian

    Hi Brian,

Have this week signed up for Trek 435 (name hasn't appeared on the website yet). Can't wait for September now, and will be spending the next 11 weeks climbing up & down the stairs at work to get in shape. Unfortunately no hills close to home, so restricts the hikes to weekends.

    Cheers Ian
