Today they are all on the move heading towards Menari. According to them, at this stage they are not experiencing too much traffic on the track and are all walking at their…[Read more]

Re salomon shoes: this brand is excellent and has been proven by our staff however for trekkers bear in mind that they have shoes where the sides are not lined, ie see through holes. Whilst this is ok with PNG guys as there feet are tough compared to ours and they can walk in anything, barefeet and thongs.Today, I purchased a pair of shoes for…[Read more]

Since trekking companies had to be licensed, it is now not allowed to just select a porter off the street somewhere to accompany trekkers on the track. All boys now have to apply for a trek license and to obtain one they will have to meet certain standards as set down by the Kokoda Track Authority. It was also announced at a KTA meeting last…[Read more]

With regards to porters, I also want to add that some trekkers even hire a porter JUST IN CASE as they want to try to carry to see what its like but have one on standby to help them across river crossings; steep slopes or whatever. These porters feel stupid carrying nothing so in most cases they help take the load off the food porters whilst…[Read more]

Hi there. With regards to the terrain and toughness of Kokoda, lets just say that experienced walkers who have been just about everywhere who have trekked with us, state that walking Kokoda is the hardest thing they have done. I think that is why at the end everyone is so pumped up when they cross the finish line as its truly an achievement of a…[Read more]

Hi Derek, with regards to walking sticks. We have tried different options. Initially the boys used to cut a tree then we got them mass produced by a wood carver in Port Moresby but they lacked the personal touch. Last year the boys decided to start doing them again but they let us down as some of the boys would cut and carve and others did not.…[Read more]

The lead up to what happened. In the first instance they took their little baby to Kokoda Hospital as he started to cry and they found it hard to settle him down. The hospital informed them they had no medicine and that they were closed until further supplies arrived. They took him home and wondered how to get him to Popondetta. The Mamba…[Read more]

Hi there, my first impression would be that they do not offer enough ankle support for the rough terrain of the Kokoda Track but having said that I have not had a pair on my feet.I do however wear on a daily basis a pair of Vibram Merrill walking shoes which I can swear by.
