Fluppy replied to the topic Dvd Walkers Guide in the forum Trek Preparation 16 years, 2 months ago

Hi all, I received Mike's dvd quite some time ago now and can highly recommend it. Absolutely brilliant with a good idea of what it's REALLY like. Love the map that came with it as I was able to refer to it at various points in the dvd. Think I might even laminate it and take it with me when I trek Kokoda in October. The only thing I thought…[Read more]

Fluppy replied to the topic Ow! Ow! Ow! – Breaking New Boots In in the forum General Discussions 16 years, 5 months ago

Thanks guys for all your support. I have discovered much over the last few days breaking my boots & feet in. I found the problem with my toe (rather my boot) was that the tongue on the left boot was more bulged at the bottom than the right boot. Some gentle stretching and manipulating of the tongue fixed this. Now however, that same tongue is…[Read more]

I can understand where you are coming from Mozero – but I think you will be well accepted and have not a thing to worry about. The 'Fuzzy Wuzzy's' really are angels and I believe they will take good care of you with no predjudice. Although the Australian's fought against the Japanese and vice-versa, they all still fought. All three sides (PNG…[Read more]

Hubby now wants a bigger tent than the one we already purchased for Kokoda (which was a black-wolf Stealth Mesh tent or something to that effect). He now wants to buy a 2 person Exped Aries Mesh tent. RRP – $599, weight: min 2.2kg, packed: 2.67kg because we will now be buying an extra daypack…[Read more]

Fluppy replied to the topic Spare Shoes in the forum Trek Preparation 16 years, 5 months ago

I'm taking as my extra pair of shoes, a set of 'Crocs' for walking around the campsite/river crossings. Hubby is looking at taking those fishing-slipper type things (I have no idea what they're called, sorry). Basically, (from what I understand) they're made out of wetsuit material and suitable for fishing on craggy rocks/barnacles/rock pools…[Read more]

And in fact if I had not paid my deposit to this other company, then I would be (and have no hesitation in recommending) trekking with KTL. It's a shame I didn't stumble upon this website sooner than I did at the time of paying the (non-refundable) deposit :/

Fluppy replied to the topic Trekking Poles in the forum General Discussions 16 years, 5 months ago

What about spring-loaded ones? I've heard they're very good for pushing off with for that extra 'umf' as they say, but wouldn't they get all clogged up with mud etc on Kokoda?
