• Fluppy, you'll sweat a lot of that water out. Don't focus on the actual amount of water so much; just keep hydrated. I didn't figure out how much water I'd taken in till almost the end of the trip when I got to the end of a layer of puri-tabs.Liners…Carefree Barely There, or Invisibles, or something like that. One thing I'll also mention…I…[Read more]

  • Hmmm…thanks. Interesting. I also have a medical condition that could have made Kokoda very hard, so my battle was overcoming my own body, but mostly my mind. Maybe that's part why I feel the way I do…

  • I took travel pack size tissues and kept an individual pack of those in a ziplock bag in my pocket, with my anti-bac hand wash, and just replaced them each day. I quite liked the hole in the ground facilities, because there wasn't anything to touch. Where there were sit down loos, I wiped them with anti-bac, then put tissue down before sitting. I…[Read more]

  • We crossed that river on the same day and wondered how in the world those boys would get us and all our bags and equipment across the river without getting wet. I took photos of the river and tyre tubes. I should have taken photos of the trekkers' faces when the group realised how we had to get across. The boys did a fabulous job and nothing got…[Read more]

  • Yep, there was a small fire for a while. But I hung my boots up on a rafter in the ceiling with the laces, away from the flames/heat. They hung for about 12 hours. One guy did fry his inners by putting them near the fire that night.

  • I love the Scarpas I bought. One of my feet is about half a size bigger than the other, so I went for a bigger size than I'd normally wear. I ended up walking through the swamp at Myola, rather than around the edge – misjudged and ended up ankle deep in mud. blink.gif My boots were totally gross, but my socks/feet stayed dry, so I was pretty impressed by…[Read more]

  • It's interesting to read all the comments about perspectives of other groups passed on the track. Everyone we passed was great and my carrier was related to, or knew some carriers from other companies, so it was all very friendly. We met a group coming the other direction one morning and they joined us for our briefing (I can't remember the name…[Read more]

  • I do agree that trek group size can be (and is in some cases) an issue. Like I said, I wasn't keen on the idea of trekking with a large group. Mine was certainly about double the size I would have preferred. If it had been any bigger, I would not have been pleased. However, I have to admit I changed my mind early in the piece about our particular…[Read more]

  • Just a quick note on the size of Charlie's treks. The reason they can be large, is that they run some of the treks at 'platoon size', to give an idea of the number of people at the battles, as the treks are based on military history and follow the original wartime track (which separates from the main track in places) and military briefings are…[Read more]
