It's hard to train when you are sick……lots of companies advocate 3 months prep, but you wouldn't want to get off the couch with 3 months to prepare and lose a week or 2 to sickness. Your training has lots of cross-training (different activities) which is good, plus if you live in the east of Vic u would have some decent hills to climb. For you…[Read more]

I just read back over your initial post re your training…….FANTASTIC!
I think the challenge will be to stay motivated, I found it hard when my trek date was 12 months away, seems like forever…….your training plan looks great though! A life changing experience!

70 days Leanne, not that I am counting!
I started serious training last October, wanting to give myself a full 12 months, given that I am in my mid 40's. Having said that, I was pretty fit to begin with so it was as much about feeding the anticipation as actually building aerobic capacity.
Over the summer I was doing 4 sessions a week outdoors,…[Read more]

I am trekking with Adventure Kokoda on October 6th but don't want to arrive from my flight at 8.50pm…….how do I book a room for the night of October 5th? Also, do you have an airport bus service?

I've now officially convinced myself to go with a company…..but which one?!?!?!I want a strong military focus, since thats the reason for me wanting to do the walk. But its hard to tell which companies have this focus!

A footy mate of mine, Peter Holliday, was killed in a plane crash on the way to Kokoda in 09. I miss Pete, he was a great mate. So far I have been putting together some gear:* Black Wolf McKinley 85L pack.* Lightweight Black Wolf mat (got it on special :-)………* Black Wolf Grasshopper lightweight 2-man tent.* Backpack cover (to keep out…[Read more]

I have found a number of excellent web resources, including one that has a detailed costing list and blog. https://kokoda.techrescue.org/ I found this costing list to be the best around.I was somewhat surprised to read somewhere that the trek company had something like 40 walkers and 60 porters/support staff. Thats a massive group! I'm aiming…[Read more]

Brilliant reply, thanks so much……..without doubt I would utilise your company if I had the financial choice! Walking in 2013 and then again in 2015 so the $ is an issue, unless a rich relative falls from a ladder whilst cleaning the spouts!I have purchased an 85L pack, and am going for light, compact gear. Spending a little more but mindful of…[Read more]

lol re packing into the day pack :-)It's not the clothing that I am worried about, or even the tent really, as I am using advice on this and other sites, its more the food that I obviously need to ensure I have enough room for. The 85L Black Wolf MCKINLEY is a similar weight to the 75L but as this is my first trip to Kokoda I am paranoid about…[Read more]

Thanks Rocky……….worried about pack size only because I will be carrying tent and food for 10 days so don't want to get caught short with a 75lt. Any thoughts?
