Update 27th April 2019
Trek 1217: This trek got away around 7am this morning. They have now been dropped off at Owers’ Corner to commence their walk across the Kokoda Trail. On this trek are two mates, Marco Poggi and Paul Ansel. Accompanying them is Christopher Talanoa as the guide. Other staff are: Wayne Urina Tihimi; Tony Ogonemi; Frank Taimbari; Arnold Jinga and Jeffrey Eki.
Trek Update: Christopher phoned around midday to say they were at Goodwater having lunch and that the destination for today is Ioribaiwa Village.
Update 28th April 2019
Trek 1217: Last night was spent at Ua’Ule Creek. Christopher said since he walked in on the 24th April the area has had a fair bit of heavy rain. As a result the track now is wet, muddy and slippery so they have been making slow progress as they head today to Nauro Village.
Trek 1217: This trek walked through Nauro and continued on to Agulogo where they are now camped for the night. Trekkers did really well today as a tough day climbing up Maguli Range. The rain has now dried up which is good. Tomorrow another big day as they head off to Menari followed by Brigade Hill and all going to plan they should reach Efogi for the night.
Update 29th April 2019
Trek 1217: This trek is now at Launumu, Efogi II for the night. They are powering along and our GPS showed them at Brigade Hill earlier than expected. Two of our staff, Arnold and Wayne have felt sick today but have pushed on. By now backpacks are starting to empty out as they get closer to home which for these guys is Kokoda.
Christopher said the weather has been great and tomorrow they are looking forward to reaching Templeton’s Crossing. The track is quiet now that the Anzac Day treks have finished but today they met up with a big group of school children.
Update 30th April 2019
Trek 1217: Christopher called to say they have reached Templeton’s Crossing around 3:30pm this afternoon. Trekkers are ok and our two sick porters are now ok. Their last night on the track will be spent at Isurava Village tomorrow night unless something changes to alter this.
Update 1st May 2019
Trek 1217: Trekkers have now reached Deniki and will walk off the track tomorrow around 10:30 in Kokoda. They have done extremely well. Earlier today they walked through Isurava Memorial before walking through Isurava Village and pushing down to Deniki for the night.
Update 2nd May 2019
Trek 1217: This group walked off the track earlier today. Or should I say ran off the track as I am informed they decided to run from Deniki to Kokoda. At the present time they are all relaxing in Kokoda before being driven to Popondetta tomorrow morning to catch their flight back to Port Moresby. Well done from all of us here at Kokoda Trekking.
