Hi, I am going to Kokoda on the 24th of August, 2007
not with this company ( little embarrased to admit that when I am on your forum!) rolleyes.gif
and was just wondering what the toilet situation is on the track, not that I am opposed to finding the nearest tree, however having spent the first 21 years of my life in the Highlands and dealing with the locals on a daily basis, am just wondering.
My son (19) and I are joining a trek which has been organised by the 2/16th Battalion, to take my fathers ashes to Kokoda, Bill Guest was a member of the 39th Battalion, then when this was disbanded, he joined the 2/14th, after the war he went back to Moresby and Lae in the PNGVR & PIR, then to Goroka, all up about 32 years, he also went back to Ishuarva for the 60th Anniversary with the Prime Minister, when he died on the 1st of December last year, our family decided to take him back to where he was the happiest. We are doing a 'Kinsman' trek, just from Kokoda to Ishuarva & back. I am so looking forward to going home, although it is going to be such an emotional trip.
Yahoo Serious has been a great help, organising with the Kokoda Foundation for Dad's ashes to be spread, as well as a local lady called Prisila, who comes from Kokoda Village.

    Hi

Congratulations on your upcoming trip, although it will be a highly emotional one for you no doubt. But also, I believe that it will be a very fullfilling and rewarding trip for you, your Son and your family. I will be thinking of you when you are trekking.

I have read and seen your Fathers name in books over the years, as I have built a reasonable collection of Kokoda books and material.

I, with my Brother, returned to PNG in 2005 and walked the Track and then when we returned to Moresby, we sought our Dad's grave at the Bomana Civilian Cemetery and that was certainly an emotional day for us, as I hadn't been back for 28 years from the day we buried him.

I would like to further communicate with you through email and if you wish to, I will advise my email address next time. I am a friend of Gail's (KTL) from when we trekked, actually 5 months before we trekked.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Wazza,

    My email address is nettles58@bigpond.com

I am looking forward to this, only 6 weeks to go! Rev Peter Holloway, who served with the 39th and with dad, is making the trek back as well, he will be performing the service at Kokoda, I think there are 5 vets from 2/14th, 2/16th & 39th, all who are being choppered in, we are doing the 'woosy walk' Kokoda to Ishuarva and then there are those who are doing the full 9 day, all timed to meet at Ishuarva. I would have loved to have done the full trek, but have recently had a major operation and am struggling a little to get back my fitness. Anthony will be 19, the same age as dad in the war. Love to hear from you

    Nettie
