MemberHi David,
I noticed that no-one has replied to you, the weather is very hot/humid in Moresby, getting cooler as you climb. September is the end of the dry season start of the wet season, so you could expect rain, not the same as here, it pours, then it stops. I lived the Highlands of New Guinea, and from talking to a lady who lives at Kokoda, the weather is very much the same, hot through the day and fairly cold at night. New Guinea doesn't have seasons as we do, as they are in the tropics, just a wet & dry season, but even the dry season it wet. I am going at the end of August/September and am taking thermals,
( if i can buy some! they are like hens teeth at the moment)light track pants, tshirt and a light track top for night. Definately take a rain jacket of some sort.11/08/2007 at 1:59 am #98336davidd

MemberHi David, yes agree with comments above. Kokoda is hot during the day and not cold at night but just enough for a sheet on top of you. However as you climb up to Isurava it gets cool at night all the way to Efogi.
After Efogi it gradually warms up and by the time you hit Nauro you are hot at night all the way back to Owers' Corner.
Some trekkers of late have been coming in saying its freezing at 1900/Myola Junction area at night. The way they talk it compares to Sydney in winter but not Melbourne or the snow…haha
So, as long as you pack a lightweight track suit/sleeping bag and a tent to zipper up you should be ok even at 1900! Definitely do not need a jacket or coat!
