Hi Luchar, tks for posting your message. Some trekkers bring with them purifying tablets and others drink straight from the streams, therefore it is an individual choice.

When I trekked last November, I filled up from the creeks and did not get sick from the water. However, last year my son trekked and he used tablets all the way in case he got a reaction from the water.

Water is everywhere on the Kokoda Trail so you are never in danger of running out. We recommend carrying 2 litres of water as you have to drink heaps.

Hope this helps, others reading this may contribute what worked for them.

    Hi Luchar,
I used water purification tablets, just in case. I didn't want to get sick and spoil the experience. You could train for the taste by drinking pool water!!
    Cheers,

Can anyone tell me where to buy the purification tablets ata reaosnable price?
I went to a camping shop and it worked out it would cost $100 to buy enough tablets to purify water for 2 for 8 days
