Do most people wait until you are at the Port Moresby airport before getting a visa? It seems difficult to get in advance if you don't live in a capital city.

we had a very funny story about visas.
we were told to get a visa on arrival.
after waiting in line for a while, a customs officer asked us to go to a shorter line, upon reaching the desk we were told that we had to be in our original line, so back to the end we went.
we eventually made it through, about 1.5 hours later.
there are no toilets while you are waiting, they are on the other side after getting a visa.
it is basically a big shed with fans, so it's welcome to the new guinea heat.
my advice would be to try and get the visa before leaving, or make sure you are near the front of the line on arrival.

Another tip is to have PNG currency on you when you arrive as if not, you line up once at the visa area….then through to the bank to change money….then back again to the line and the wait begins all over again!

If you have time on your hands you can always courier your passport to the PNG consultate's office for a visa or if going through a travel agent they sometimes do this on your behalf.
