MemberWear Lycra Skins the only way to go I did and had absolutely no problems at all.
Ideal also at the end of the day just pull everything else off leave them on and jump in for a swim if you wish no need to take any swimmers with you if you wear them.
Being Lycra they tend to dry quicker as well.
By the way I washed everything every night or soon after we got into camp and nothing at all dried over night so it was off with the dry clothes that I had slept in and on with the wet ones great wake me up putting wet clothes on each morning
I did though make sure that I did put dry socks on each day after treating my feet with Vaseline before doing so

MemberAs an alternative to wool- try out the Ex-officio knickers. comfie as anything and you only need two pairs of them for the rest of your life. (this is coming from a girl who does her lingere shopping at woollies- i thought i'd hit the jackpot when i discovered merino boxers- underwear that i only had to wash once a month= AWESOME.) jokes aside- the Ex-officios are pretty impressive and ideal for kokoda. lots of army buddies are swearing by them too.

MemberBrian,
One of the best pieces of advice i got before i went was to put my clothes back on after i washed them. because they are technical garments made from quick drying/wicking materials your own body heat will acutally dry them out, whereas hanging them out they wont. I tested this out by way of experiment/research and it was so true. within about a half hour or so my clothes were back to dry if i kept them on. If you ever head over again…test it out!
love anth.

MemberHi all …I second Brian for the lycra skins…they do reduce chaffing of the thighs and other areas….and I agree with Anthea…when stopping for the day on the trail I washed my clothes whilst wearing them and sat on the edge of the creek resting my feet in the water….within a short time my clothes were relatively dry and ready for wear the next day….I did notice that without washing or rinsing clothes at the end of the day…the old BO factor was noticeable

MemberAnthea,
You're spot on with the Ex-officio knickers. I bought 2 pairs in March 2004 and since then they have comfortably and ably survived:- 7 weeks trekking in Nepal being bashed on rocks in glacial water
- 3 weeks in the desert on the Larapinta Trek
- the mud and rain of the South Coast Track and Overland in Tassie
- 6 weeks on African safari plus Mt Kilimanjaro
- both the Great South West Walk and Great Ocean Walks in Victoria
- Kokoda in September this year
- as well as regular weekend/week treks in South Oz
Looks like 2 pairs ARE all that I'm going to need for the rest of my (long and adventurous) life.
I washed them every night on Kokoda and then put them between 2 super absorbent Chux underneath my sleeping mat – clean, dry knickers every day – what more could a girl want?
