MemberTrek 872 Update: Last night they were in the Templeton's area and will walk off the track one day later than planned tomorrow the 2nd May. Lara battled in the beginning but came good. Warren was a bit crook for a day or so but he too came good and they the three of them are about to walk off the track tomorrow. Think of them today as they cross over Eora Creek.

MemberTrek 841: Trekkers are now relaxing at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. Its been raining quite heavily and vehicles have been stuck today on the Popondetta side of the rivers so at this stage have no idea when the group will move down to the coast. All going well it will happen sometime tomorrow when rivers go down.

MemberTrekkers are now on their way to Popondetta. The original vehicle we hired had a mechanical problem and cannot be used so we were forced into finding another car. Due to all the political stuff going on in the province it seems hiring a vehicle is really hard as they go as quick as they come in.
Anyway the group are now moving and heading to Popondetta. One troopcarrier and a PMV following carrying all the backpacks, esky (to sit on Sanananda Beach with a few stubbies), and other items carried on their trek. On the return trip the PMV will load much needed sago leaves from the Buna and take them to Orohaven Kokoda Retreat.

MemberTrek 841: Trekkers have reached Sanananda where they are spending two nights. Today they are exploring around the Buna area before heading back to Sanananda. The last time Shane's group stayed there the locals caught some lobstor. If they are lucky fisherman this time round no doubt trekkers will enjoy freshly caught seafood.
They will fly back into Port Moresby on the 7;30am flight tomorrow Friday.

MemberTrek 827: Trekkers walked off the track yesterday around 2pm. They are presently relaxing at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. Instead of the normal overnight, these trekkers requested an extra day in Kokoda. Last night there was lots of beer shared around in the Wantok Tavern as 8 guys turned up to join them who were over there fixing a helicopter that went US during Anzac Day period.
Today Warren, Grant and Lara have been walking around enjoying the local scenery, meeting and talking with other trekkers who flew in today. Tomorrow afternoon they will head down to Popondetta for their flight back to Port Moresby.

MemberI have just heard that Brendan Buka, who was Lara's Personal porter on our recent Trek No. 872, has been promoted to a Trek Guide for KTL and offered his first trek in early June, which should be about his 35th trek.
Our congratulations to Brendan for this promotion, as he is an absolute wonder and was quite sensational as a Porter to Lara for the entire trek, as well as being helpful to us all and other colleagues of his throughout our trek. He thoroughly deserves his opportunity to lead a trek and we will follow his progress with interest.
Brendan, apart from being the fastest man alive to cross the Kokoda Track (in both directions) he is well liked and is well known along the Track and at all the villages and always spoke with authority, knowledge and courtesy in dealing with any situation.
Brendan congratulations and I hope you are able to link up with most of your Mates from Trek 872, especially Jimmy, my Porter.
Good luck, best wishes and keep in touch
Lara, Grant & Waza
