Yesterday saw myself in training, yes me 'aussie' (Gail Thomas) for my Kokoda experience in November this year….yes well that is if I can get fit enough as my legs today feel really stiff and sore.

I have already started walking up and down the stairwell at work – Deloitte Tower Ground Floor to level 12 and with a few weeks still left to train and shed some kilos, hopefully I will do what I set out to do, and that is to walk from Ower's Corner to Kokoda sometime in November this year.

As all my trekkers say….Gail, YOU JUST GOTTA DO IT!!! You cant send us out without doing it yourself.

Now there is a challenge for you all….if I can do it…ANYONE CAN! See my story I plan to post tonight…

Photograph: Kenny (my housekeeper or as they say here in PNG, haus boi) and myself sitting on the steps of the archway at Ower's Corner, yesterday 17th September, 2004.

My first training session: We drove out to near the Salvation Army and walked down to Goldie Creek where we spent the night camping out on PNG's Independence Day 15th September, 2004. The following morning we awoke early and then walked back and up the steep climb to Ower's Corner and back to the car and got home around midday 17th September, 2004.

Update 20th September, 2004: All POMIS students have made it to Ofi Creek where they will spend the night.

Eric's group of three trekkers has made it to Menari and our large group of 38 are spending the night at Isurava.

Tonight we met up with our two groups of trekkers that arrived back in from the Kokoda Trail early this morning. All trekkers were very happy and stated they thoroughly enjoyed their trek.

Update 21st September: Large group numbering 37 trekkers have reached Iora Creek and are all doing ok.

Our group of POMIS high school students are now spending the night at Ower's Corner and will get out tomorrow as planned.

Eric Uwea with his three trekkers is spending the night at Efogi II and these too are ok.

Our next lot of 15 trekkers who were supposed to arrive today, got stuck in Cairns when Air Niugini was grounded. We have now had a change of plan and due to these circumstances, we have turned the trek around and it will now head from Ower's Corner to Kokoda and then onto Buna/Gona before flying out by charter from Popondetta back to Port Moresby.

Tomorrow we also see Murray Jones and Team Kokoda trekkers arrive who will be staying at the Hideway Hotel before departing the following day also from Ower's Corner.
