MemberTrek 202: Trekkers got away on time last Wednesday and have as their guide Nikki and Salvador.
Four of our trekkers combined forces with Pam's trekkers and all seemed to blend perfectly the last time I saw them. Trekkers included:
Michael Young; Ray Samios; Rob Clarkson and Gary Bowden
Trek 216:
Trekkers Judy McDonald; Phil Ryan; Mark McLaren; Phil Ryan; Mark Quirk; Shannon Curley; Ray Wallace and Danny Humphrey got away as planned last Wednesday and spent the night in Kokoda. The following morning the were up bright and early to walk up to Isurava Village. All trekkers are doing ok.
Trek 234:
The Lihir Ladies group for 2006 headed out to Kokoda also on Wednesday and were JUST SO EXCITED!!!. We had a bit of excitement of our own as we tried to locate Lyndah Brown as she had not shown up. Fortunately with a few minutes to spare she turned up at Airlines of PNG to catch the flight. Our KTL staff had been warned about a PNG woman with 'red' hair trekking and quickly noticed her from the departure area of another company hired to fly them into Kokoda, namely Tropic Air.
As the aircraft could only take 9 passengers and there was already three left over from trek 202, one trekker Alison Clark remained behind to catch the last flight of the day with trek 216. Other trekkers in their group waited for Alison to arrive before they headed off on their trek. All trekkers are doing ok so far which include :
Lyndah Brown; Sue Howden; Alison Clark; Kate Pink; Tania Etschmann; Carol Gough; Jude Moore and Kris Pemberton.
On the flights coming back in from Kokoda was our 22 Hour Challenger Runners for 2006. They all got to meet the trek hero from 2005, John Hunt Hiviki and seemed really excited at the prospect of being on the track itself as they all will speed past this coming Saturday/Sunday. The ladies decided they would have a sweep and a bet on this race. We sent out a schedule of the names of the people entered in this year's race with two porters yesterday who are carrying in radios and sat phones to all checkpoints.

MemberMessages for Trek 234 which will be read out at the first opportunity:
Message for Kris: Hi babe. Hope you are going OK and the blisters are keeping their distance. How are those hills going? I hear they do end eventually.
We are doing OK. The kids cross-off the days you have been away each morning and count how many to go. William has not given any complaints about spending lot's of time with Priscilla. In fact he has been a little trouper and a real pleasure. He seems to miss you most in the morning. Priscilla is enjoying her time with William as well.
I'm not spending the time at work I should but enjoying the extra time with the kids (mostly).
For dinners I kept it simple the previous two nights with rice one night and the club the other. Tonight was Burritos and there were a few tense moments when I burnt the chicken but the kids didn't notice.
Overall they are behaving well and missing you. They all send their love as does my mum. She called to see how I was going.
Good luck and bring yourself home before these messages start getting more desperate.
Lot's of love, Adam.

MemberMessage for Sue Howden (trek 234):
Dear Mum,
I miss you a lot. How is Kokoda going? Are they really big walks? I guess there's big mountains. Have you seen any snakes or anything? Are there slugs there? School has been going good.
Love DarcieDear Mum,
I miss you lots and lots and lots. I have been going good at school.Minkey was held today and it was a good day, and no one scored goals. Have you seen anything that looks poisonous? I have been helping in the house.
Love KelseyDear Mum,
I can't say it.
Love JoannaHey Babe,
Hope the walk is treating you well, and the leeches have left you alone. We're travelling well at home; have manged to get home at reasonable times and even managed 15 minutes at the pool with the kids. I've been enjoying fleeting moments of lonely bliss in bed, in between very regular visits from Joanna and Darcie. Keep one foot in front of the other and enjoy yourself (I think?)Love G.

MemberHi yer doll
Hope the body is keeping up with the hike and the spirits are as high as when you left (doubtful but hopeful), heard that Lyndah nearly missed the plane, I guess there is a benefit of having red hair, and that Alison caught the second plane.
I guess by the time you receive this you will be well into it and realising the benefits of all the weeks of training, hopefully without blisters or strains. I trust the weather is not too wet, as it has been here
Everything is spot on here and the 6 kids are fine, Wally & Gertrude have drippy noses, Celestine & Pumpkin have a dose of, & Prudence & Albert well they are just driving me mad, but I’ll survive, as I know you will
Take care
Love Bob

MemberGidday Al & Jude ( I am writing on behalf of the Snake also)
Al – Things are surprisingly smooth on the home front. Your Mum & Dad have been fantastic and the kids are going well. That said Abbey seems to be living at the Maurices who are undoubtedly filling her head with All Black propaganda. So we will have some deprogramming to do over the off season.
Jude – Flynn & Jas going well – only tears so far have come from the Snake himself but he was unable to tell me the problem due to the incessant sobbing so I am not sure if it work or Kokoda related <img src="http://developer2/board/upload/style_emoticons//tongue.gif” style=”vertical-align:middle” emoid=”:P” border=”0″ alt=”tongue.gif” />
By the time you both get this you should be more than half way there so hang in there and keep going (or ring for a chopper and book it up to the Snakes account) See you when you get home. Cheers to the other girls.

Hi babe (Kris).
Hope you're travelling OK and the blisters are under control. We have not had a status report since Friday but I'm sure we'd hear if there was a medevac happening ? via the Australian papers.
The meal at the club was terrible last night, only Cajun crusted chicken breast, lamb with toasted almonds, Saffron rice, jacket potatoes with sour cream, lot's of salads, bread rolls and chocolate cake.
Kids are still OK ? just one lot of tears from each of Sam and William so far.
Went to lawn bowls on the tennis court at the club tonight and it was great fun ? should be a long term winner as its at a gentle pace, the kids can get involved and plenty of opportunity for amber fluids. Left at 10 pm and William crashed on that long trip home.
I can confirm that the Snake is distraught. Symptoms include excessive consumption of Crownies and heading out on the water to get away from it all.
Missing you.
Adam, Kyle, Sam and William

MemberHi Girls – all is well on Lihir. All Dads seem to be coping with children and hair and teeth appear to be attended to before school each morning (can’t report about weekend activity in this area). Kate and Carol I have not sighted Bob or Joe so can’t report on whether they are brushing their hair or cleaning their teeth.
Al – your mum came to beading and made a great necklace and seemed to really enjoy doing this.
We get updates and reminders every morning on parade – so about 8.15am every morning you should feel that positive vibe from the children. We all send our best wishes on a great experience and a safe return.

MemberTrek 234: Sorry everyone we have been in Kokoda and only just arrived back in from Popondetta this morning.
The winner and runner ups in the race informed us the girls were in high spirits and screaming and yelling as they passed by so YES, they are all OK.
Will now listen out for updates.

MemberHello Girls, just wanting to know that I wish we could watch it on television, like Big Brother!!! Hope it is all going well and you are running up those hills with ease!! Kokoda drinks are in sight

MemberHi Babe, How’s the blister management going? Hope you’re well heeled. The kids send there love, and so do I. We had a quiet weekend, with both Kelsey and Darcie having sleep over’s on Friday night. Just Jo and I at home. We all had a go at painting Kelsey’s solar system mobile on Sunday, with minimal mess. Don’t feel left out though, because we’ve kept some for you.
I’ve managed to get them all to brush their teeth, and Kelsey has even taken to brushing her hair. We all miss you, and look forward to picking you up on Thursday. Enjoy the rest of your walk and in particular the relief champagne at the end. Love Greg
Editors Note: Champagne is currently sitting in our fridge waiting to go out to Ower's Corner for their celebration finish!!!

Have just spoken to Sue and I read out all the messages. She said to say they are all having a fantastic time.
The porters and guide are great…the food is good….that they are looking forward to getting out but all in all having a ball of a time.
Apparently they were singing Waltzing Matilda when the aussie competitor Damon ran into the village of Efogi….somehow or other they created the 4th of July atmosphere along with other trekkers and villagers.
Damon in Kokoda yesterday stated that the reception he received in Efogi he will never foget so obviously whatever they did WORKED !!!
Competitors arriving at 'Checkpoint 1' – please note the eventual winner Brendan Buka – number 27 in a time of 17 Hours, 49 minutes & 17 seconds:

Love Jess xx
