This trek commenced yesterday when two trekkers flew over to Popondetta mid afternoon and were met by their guide Tony Ogonemi at Girua airport. They were driven up to Kokoda in a hired 4WDrive. A brief stop at Orohaven Pija at the half way point saw them stretch their legs before continuing on to Orohaven Kokoda Retreat where they spent the night. Today saw them up and walking at 5:30am on their fast trek with the plan to walk off the track at Owers' Cnr on the 28th July. Trekkers are Jake Nicholson and Scott Wilson. Have a great trek guys as you walk along with our KTL boys, Tony Ogonemi; Jackie Isorori and Jessie Aire. These guys are also toughing it out as they are carrying their own backpacks.

Text message received from Tony Ogonemi via sat phone: We are all good and doing great. We camped at Alola last night due to strong wind and rain. Today we will continue our walk planning to reach Kagi. Our trekkers are a good bunch of 2 good blokes who are enjoying their walk so far. unquote

Its been a busy couple of days for these two trekkers. They went to Kagi for an overnight. Last night at Naoro and now this afternoon they are at Goodwater.

So quite a pace these guys and our porters have been on. First fast trek for Jackie one of our food porters. Jessie another food porter, loves a fast trek and in fact covered it in less than 22 hours in our Kokoda Challenge Races. As for Tony the guide for this trek, I am sure he has been doing his best to keep up as this too is a fast trek for him as he is a quiet patient kind of guy and I usually put him on longer treks.

Tomorrow they will walk off the track at Owers' Cnr.

Congratulations, well done guys, you nailed the fast trek by walking off the track around 9:30am this morning at Owers' Corner. Congratulations from all of us here at Kokoda Trekking. Tony, your guide might need a week to recover by the sounds of it. Trust you both will enjoy the rest of your time in Papua New Guinea as you head off to Kavieng later this afternoon.
