MemberThis group flew over to Popondetta on the 16th April and were driven by road up to Kokoda where they spent the night at our base, Orohaven having a relaxing afternoon drinking a few beers and eating pizza's.
The next day they commenced their trek at 7am and spent the first night at Isurava Village.
Tonight they are at Eora Creek.
Shane a second time trekker has been calling in each day with updates and said 'Flash' a nickname for his mate turned up a couple of hours later than the rest on day one but seems now they are all powering along.
Trekkers in this group include :-
[*]Steve Kift
[*]Phil Keys
[*]Tom Keys
[*]Shane Osborne
[*]Craig McIver
[*]Todd Forknall
[*]Olivia CliffeThese are the tough trekkers as all of them are carrying their own packs. You are going well trek 955!

MemberEarlier today this group would have walked across the cane bridge at Eora Creek and earlier visited the Isurava War Memorial.

MemberI have not heard from this trek today but according to our GPS they have reached their destination of 1900/Myola Junction.
Earlier today they would have walked through Templeton's Crossing.
TEMPLETON'S CROSSING – Japanese rearguard delays the Australian's – background history:
Templeton's Crossing was in the steepest and highest sections on the Kokoda Track with thick jungle, rushing streams, overhanging crests, dripping moss and frequent chilling rain and temperatures down to zero degrees in the winter of 1942. High on the norther side of the Owen Stanley Ranges, the Eora Creek tumbled downwards, cutting an ever deepening gorge which eventually reached the plain below, near Kokoda.
The track from Port Moresby crossed the crest of Mt Bellamy at 2190 metres in an area known as the Gap, wound its way along the western edge of the gorge, and then plunged to a crossing over the Eora Creek. Across the creek the track was joined by another, which had left Myola and crossed the creek further upstream.
Lieutenant Kienzle named the point where it joined the old track "Templeton's Crossing" in memory of Captain Sam Templeton of the 39th Battalion. During the wthdrawal on 2nd September, 1942, the 2/16th Battalion fought a short defensive engagement in the Templeton's Crossing area.

MemberHeard from Shane that they are all good and now in Efogi. Earlier today they stopped for lunch with trek 955 walking in the opposite direction. Tomorrow they are looking forward to crossing paths with trek 981 when they meet somewhere between Efogi and Agulogo. Shane is already talking about beers so must be looking forward to one when they walk off the track! Photograph below: Richard Mountstephens passing through Kagi in our Kokoda Challenge Race.

MemberApologise for no updates last night as we have been experiencing several blackouts that last up to 6 hours a time.
Last night trekkers found themselves at Agulogo.
Shane and Arnold phoned today. Just like the others walking in the opposite direction, the track this time has thrown everything at them. Crossing Brown River today caused them a few problems but with the help of ropes they all managed ok. Shane said its tough out there and his words, you should see the mud, its like swamp all the way! These guys are hanging out for a beer and have requested some Spaghetti Bolognaise be taken into them for the meal tomorrow night. Are they spoilt or what? However due to the heavy rain, lets hope we can drive up all the way to grant them their wish. Bring o the 24th!
Tonight they are at Ioribaiwa Village. Shane mentioned that the Doctor on our trek has been helping lots of people from other trekking companies along the way as well as our own.

MemberCongratulations are in order for this group as they walked off the track today at Owers' Corner. Apparently it was cold; windy and miserable so they asked to be picked up this afternoon instead of tomorrow morning. Trekkers are now relaxing at their accommodation and as I type, our staff are still making their way to our base. Well done everyone!
