    Tonight we met up with the next lot of trekkers who this time round stayed at the Ela Beach Hotel who also own the Gateway Hotel.

    All looked pumped up and ready to go! When I told them a 6am start, they looked a little surprised but said they would be ready.

    Guide – John Derick Eroro:

    List of Trekkers:

    Craig Robbie, Stan Pulgies, Rihard Ivey, Mark Sturman, Ian Spencer, Don Powell, Michael Thompson, Donald Graham, Michael Kneipp, Donal O'Dwyer & Allen Clarke.

    When we met with the group at the Ela Beach Hotel it was decided we would pick them up at 6:30 for their drop off at Ower's Corner.

    However, when we arrived they were all still having breakfast and we finally departed around 7ish. On the way out we popped into the Bomana War Cemetery before heading out to Ower's.

    All trekkers got away around 8:30am and made it to Va'Ule Creek last night for their first overnight on the Kokoda Trail.

    Update 11th July, 2005;

    Trek 95
    The group spent the night at Ua-ule creek yesterday and today will camp at New Nauro. They caught up with two other (Kokoda Trekking Limited) groups, Trek 100 and Trek 141, all three groups will camp in the same area but will go their opposite directions tomorrow.

    Despite doing a lot of climbing today and the day before, all trekkers did extremely great and are all fine. No reports of anyone having problems or facing difficulties, so that?s good.

    Otherwise, everything?s ok, so is everyone

    Trek 95
    The group spent the night at New Nauro yesterday, and this morning started off very early. Now at Brown River taking a break, all trekkers are ok and still doing fine. Weather at their end looks good, so should be a fine day.

    Tonight the group will camp at Menari, and proceed to their next destination tomorrow. When they reach, Menari, they will give me a call and update me on their latest. For now all trekkers are ok and so is everything else.

    Group has arrived at Menari; all trekkers are ok and having a great time on the trail. So far, no reports of any one having problems or facing difficulties, they all seem to be doing just fine, so that's good news.

    After talking to the guide one of the trekkers said this:

    ?We?re all having a fantastic time. John Eroro (guide), he's just fantastic, he organized everything for us, where we sleep, what to eat, where to wash ect?His an excellent guide, all the porters are great too, they've been taking good care of us.?

    At this time, some trekkers and porters are having a look around the village, but looks like it wont be for long, they will have to head on back to the camp area to prepare themselves for their evening meal.

    Ok that?s all the update for today; more will be posted up tomorrow and the days yet to come?

    This group has engaged John Derrick Eroro as their Guide and were happy to pay the extra $500 on behalf of the group to hire his services:John seen below is now on his 367th Kokoda Trek

    Message from Jo Ivey to Trek 95

    We are all fretting for you … so need to have dinner at the Lion of Waterloo tonight. Glad the survival rate is still high.

    How is Richard's knee?
    Who has to carry all the drugs?
    How good are the leaches really?
    Does Trek 95 mean that 95 is your average age?

    Have fun

    Update 13th July, 2005;

    Trek 95
    This group spent the night at Menari yesterday, and this morning headed up to Efogi 1, where they picked up the next half lot of their food, that was dropped off there. All trekkers ok and very much enjoying the trek.

    I tried to get hold of, John (guide) on the two-way-radio, but it seems like, they?ve already passed Naduri and are heading straight into Myola Junctions, where they will camp for the night. And if they have, it?s going to be pretty hard for me to get in touch with them, coz Myola is a spot where it?s in between mountains/hills, and two-way-radio signals will not pick up or there won?t be a clear reception. So not sure if we?ll hear from them or not, but I?m sure everything?s fine, and so is everyone.

    They will definitely give us call tomorrow when they reach Mt Ballamy, and when they do, I?ll make sure I get full details of trek and also pass on all messages..

    The Sturmans, Iveys, Grahams, Emma & Jocelyn all had a lovely meal together at the Lion.
    We all had a tall, cold drink to celebrate your success so far. Hope you are having as good a time as us.

    Update 13th July, 2005;

    Trek 95
    The group is currently at Kokoda Gap, heading down to the foot of Mt Bellamy, all trekkers still doing fine and having a great time on the trail.

    The group did not camp at Myola Junction yesterday, and sorry to all you viewers for that. Because I did not get a call from the group that evening, I was assuming that they were camping at Myola, and that was why it was hard for them to give me call, but has it turned out today, they were at Naduri. They couldn?t call me yesterday evening, coz all radio stations where down, but they were all ok at the end of the day, so that was good to hear.

    Tonight the group will camp at Templeton?s Crossing 1 and proceed on from there tomorrow. Weather?s not looking too good this evening, so not sure if they?ll be expecting rain tomorrow or even tonight.

    Otherwise, everything?s fine, everyone?s ok and that?s all that matters.

    Message from Kokoda, Trek 95;

    Richard
    ?Thank you for the message Jo and yes to all your questions. ?

    Michael
    ?To Chris, Erica, Amanda and Richard, all is well, see you next week.?

    Christine, Richard say?s thank you?

    And that?s all the messages for today?

    Update 15th July, 2005;

    Trek 95
    All trekkers are ok, still going strong and doing terrific. The left their camp site at about 7am this morning and headed out for a bright start, while on their way to Eora Creek, they met up with another lot of trekkers from Trek 111. They shared a few words and then continued on from there.

    After a few minutes of walk down the hill, the group finally arrived at Eora Creek where they stopped for a short break. Weather must be ok, so we got a clear reception this morning.

    At this time, the group is up and about again, moving on to Alola village.

    Eora Creek. This is how it looks when its wet season.

    To Kokoda Trek 95:

    While you must all be tired, smelly and perhaps itchy … the feedback we get indicates that it is all very 'cost effective'. You are great little troopers!
    It may just be a hard act to follow.
    The Wellington Homefront Chapter (Pip, Christine, Jo, Jocelyn and Emma) looks forward to a great debriefing function. Rotary, Senior Citizens, Quota Club, Anglican Women's Association and all the local schools, eagerly await your return … to organise their guest speakers for July/ August.
    So glad all is going well.

    Jo Ivey
