MemberOn Saturday night at the Gateway Hotel I met up with the following trekkers for the first time to welcome them to PNG and also at the same time say goodbye to another trek that had just come back from the trail staying at the same hotel.
As you can all imagine it was a busy time and immediately the old blended with the new and lots of stories were changing hands…all good!…along with a few scary one liners….like….its tough….but good…kinda along that line.
Trekkers:
Annie Keleher; Paul Keleher; Amanda Koolhaas; Andrew Read; Lauren Dewsnap ; Damien Fortuna; Martin Loevendie; Jon Segaert; David Ekins; Suzanne Ekins; Humberston McKenzie and Jim Hunter.
On Sunday its was also very hectic as we had to be up at the crack of dawn and take down to the airport our cargo for the two treks along with all the backpacks and other associated items such as tarpaulins etc for the trek that came in on Saturday morning.
Mission accomplished, we headed off to the Airways Hotel to pick up the first group of trekkers and book them in. After they received their boarding passes they were dropped off at the Airways Hotel and I went and collected the second group of trekkers which included this trek.
Airlines of PNG told me they would get away around midday so I took them for a spin into town in our truck KTL 2 and David Akins a long time resident of PNG became the tour guide.
After we arrived back the first group that booked in earlier were about to leave so this group of trekkers ended up at the Airways Swimming Pool area relaxing/reading the paper/looking out over the aerodrome…refer photograph below:

The group spent the night at Isurava village yesterday evening along side with trekkers and porters of Trek 99. Although, they came across one of the toughest mountains on the first day of their walk, the test mountain, all trekkers did terrific and made it to their campsite well. None of the trekkers had difficulties, only tiring legs and feet, otherwise they all did great and all were fine at the end of the day. This morning saw them up and bright for their second day of walk. They passed the other group, and where the first to arrive at Isurava Battlefield, where they took time to read the monuments, look around and even take pictures of the memorial park.
Soon after their look around, they headed down to Alola, had a time out break, and now making their way up to their next campsite, Eora creek. All trekkers are ok, all doing great and moving well.Isurava Battlefield.

Apologies to all viewers who were keeping an eye out on this group?s progress, but did not see any changes or updates on the website of their whereabouts and conditions, due to my short illness last week, there was no one to operate the base radio to get the groups latest reports on the trail to update you all of their trek progress each day. However, today I will update you on how they all went about on the trail and also the trekkers conditions.
After their second night at Isurava village, they moved on to Eora Creek where they spent the third night. Although, the weather looked great or good during the day, it turned out foggy as evening fell, but it did not rain. Their guide Justice tried calling the base on his two-way-radio, but due to the foggy weather he could not get a clear reception, and was unable to contact us at that time. However, the night was warm and nice and the trekkers had a good night, rest before the next day came.
All trekkers did great, no one injured him or herself, all looked good and ok at the end of the day.

On their forth day, they were all up at 6am for yet another day?s walk. Weather looked great, but still foggy though. It was a fair bit of climb up and all trekkers did great. On their way to Myola Junction, this is where they were planning on spending the forth night; they made a stop at Templeton?s 2 Crossing where they had a short time of rest before proceeding on to Templeton?s Crossing 1, and that was where they had lunch.
Though, it was a tough and tiring climb, all trekkers did great and made it to their destination.

After the lunch at Templeton?s 1 and some few good minutes of rest, the group continued on to Myola Junction, but before reaching Myola, they came up to Mt Bellamy. From top Mt Bellamy, it?s a good spot where trekkers and porters are able to get a good look back at Kokoda, but unfortunately, due to the unpleasant foggy weather again, they were not able to get a clear view. They then moved down to Myola some few minutes later. They arrived there in good time to get good wash in the creek, and set their tents and prepare themselves for the evening; it was cold, but all slept well.

Up and bright again, the group was up again at 6am, they had some morning tea and breakfast and off they started off to their day?s trek. They came up to Naduri after some good few minutes of walk, and there they had lunch, including some local mandarins and bananas.
Weather still looking the same, only this time it looked as though it was going to rain that night and it did when they reached their campsite Efogi 1. The group had to share the same campsite with trekkers and porters of Trek 99, although it was a full house, meaning full campsite, all managed to fit in well and, have one guesthouse each for the trekkers.
Other then that, all trekkers were ok at the end of the day, they did great, no one was injured, their porters and guide took real good care of them and they all made it ok.

Day 6 and trekkers and porters are up again on their same daily time. They headed up to Brigade Hill; all looking tired after a tiring climb up, but manage to catch their breaths again, as soon as they got to the top. They took a time out rest, and had the chance to have a look at the spectacular view right before them, not only that, the weather looked ok, so it was a great scenery and nice time to get pictures of the beautiful site and also just relax for some good time, and enjoy the view and the wonderful breeze.

They then headed down to Menari village, where they lunch and continued on from there to New Nauro where, the group spent the night.Though it was a tough and exhausting walk, from Efogi 1 all through to New Nauro, all trekkers did amazingly great, none of them had difficulties or problems, their porters and guide were with them all through, and they all made it to their camp destination on good time.

The weather looking great the next day and trekkers were up and ready to move on to their next destination. Not so much climbing, a few ups but mostly descending. They made a stop at Ofi creek, and they all had lunch and rested. Still no sign of anyone struggling all seemed relaxed and going well, with the time and the pace they were moving with. So that was good, they all looked like a fit bunch.
Awhile later they headed to their campsite, which was Ua-ule creek. Not so far from Ofi, it would or must have taken them approximately 3 ? or 4 hours at least to get to their destination, so they still had enough time to get relaxed and just enjoy the afternoon with each other.
All trekkers still ok, still there was no say of anyone struggling, so that was even better.

On day 8, and the group decides to come out a day early, and not spend another night on the trail, and they did. They were up at Owers Corner around 11:30 ? 12 midday the most, and were picked up by our KTL 2 truck and the two PNGBD1 and PNGBD 2 buses.
From there, they were driven down to Bomana War Cemetery, to have a look, before coming back into Port Moresby.
All trekkers did absolutely great, so well done to you all.
Congratulation & Welcome Back
