Before these trekkers arrived in town, their guide Ernst Jinga and porters were discussing whether or not the trekkers might like to head out to Owers' Corner after touching down from their flight as they had opted for a touch trek, 4 nights, 5 days.

The boys packed up and put their gear in the troopy just in case trekkers agreed with them. If not, they planned on heading out to Owers' Corner anyway so they could prepare to get away early today.

When they put their idea to the trekkers, they went for it, no questions asked.

On the way out to Sogeri however, the heavens opened up and it rained quite heavily. On arrival at Sogeri Lodge entrance I stopped the vehicle and said not too late to change their mind due to the rainfall at the time. One guy piped up and said, 'we did not come to PNG for a comfy bed, we came for the experience – so lets go to Owers' Corner.

On arrival at Owers' Corner it was still raining quite heavy and we were all ducking for cover. The guys then repacked their bags as to what they wanted to carry and what they wanted to leave behind.

I heard one guy ask a porter, boots or sneakers…it was decided boots was the way to go!

Their first night on the trek was at Ofi Creek. Tonight they have reached Menari Village. All trekkers continue to carry their backpacks and are all doing very well.

I have been trying to upload photographs taken on their day of arrival but for some reason it keeps coming up with an error message.

If you wish to view, please click on the link below as I posted them on our 'Kokoda Trekking Facebook' page:

This trek per the GPS link below have now reached Naduri. No problems whatsoever with trekkers or porters. Tomorrow they have a tough day ahead of them as they head off to Eora Creek for the night.

Wow, what a day these guys have had. They have walked all the way from Naduri Village to Aola! The original plan was to stop at Eora Creek but the group pushed on and just phoned to say they reached there around 5:30pm.

Tomorrow they are talking about getting up early and to commence walking around 5am. So if you are following this group, think of them tonight, absolutely buggered but still looking forward to that finish line in Kokoda! Go group 891, you are almost there. Imagine for a moment how they will feel tomorrow morning when they arrive at Isurava Memorial area, its the highlight of walking the track and for all of us a 'wow' factor where it is built; the surrounding views and lets not forget the war history.

Congratulations are in order for this trek as they walked off the track today at around 12:00pm through the Kokoda Archway (photograph below).

Tonight they are at our base in Kokoda at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. Tomorrow they will make there return back to Port Moresby to end the trek.
