Trek 87
Early hours this morning, 5 trekkers head out for their 10 days 9 nights Private Trek expedition, which began this morning from Owers Corner. The eager trekkers met up with their personal porters and guide, Paulo Tauanoa at Gateway Hotel, when they were about to drive up to Owers Corner with our KTL 2 truck. With the sun up and the weather looking fine today, I?m sure its going to be a good day.
This group consists of the following trekkers;
Kevin Jamieson, Brent Rae, Martin Beanland, Dave Minter & Alan Higgins.

While the group was up at Imita Ridge taking a rest, their guide Paulo gave me a call on the two-way-radio to inform me of their whereabouts and the trekkers? conditions. He said trekkers are really enjoying the trek. Although it was a tough climb up Imita Ridge in the first few minutes, all 5 of them did great, none of the trekkers were having problems or facing difficulties, they all seem to have done really well.
Other then that, the weather still looks great and hopefully will last the day.
Looks like the group will spend their first night in Ua-ule creek, and will continue to their next destination tomorrow.
More updates will be posted up later on.

The group now residing in New Nauro, and will camp there for the night. All trekkers are ok so are their porters and guide. Even though the trekkers did a lot of climbing, they all did terrific, no one?s having problems or struggling behind, all are well and keeping up with their trek. The group had lunch at Ofi creek and soon after that; they headed straight up to Maguli Range. One thing about Ofi creek is, you?ll cross the same creek more then 15 times and that is a lot and you?ll get sick of taking your shoes off and putting them on again and doing the same thing over and over again, till you?ve completed the whole creek. But I?m sure they must have done well.
Yes the group spent the night at Ua-ule creek yesterday, and started early this morning. They tried to make radio contact to the base that evening, to update us on their latest progress, but due to their location, the radio could not transmit well, so we couldn?t get in touch with them and even put their latest report on the website. However, their guide just informed me that, they were all fine that day, the trekkers all did great and had a good rest at the end of the day, so that was good to hear.

Despite having rain last night, they all still had a good night sleep up at New Nauro, which saw them up bright and early this morning for yet another day?s walk.It as been a slippery beginning for the trekkers and porters this morning, as they had to walk through a pile of muddy track, ready to be bulldozed down by all who passed through the trail. I?m pretty sure; the trekkers will have yet another weight to carry as their boots will be covered with mud.
Now up at the top of Menari Gap, all trekkers and porters are taking a time out rest and soon after that will carry on to their next destination Menari. Although carrying another lot of weight on their boots all trekkers seem to be doing really well, and having a good time. Still no reports of anyone on the trek having or facing difficulties, they are all ok and doing fine.
Weather doesn?t look too good this time around, as the clouds are gathering just above their heads, indicating that it will or might rain any minute from now, so everyone of them should be keeping their heads up, other then that all is well, and we?ll be hearing from them later on today.

Trek 87
Just got a call from the group guide Paulo, who informed me that, his group has just reached Menari village and at this time, some trekkers are having a nice cool bath, while others are just sitting next to the creek having lunch.Paulo also said that, although the trekkers are having a good time and enjoying the trek, there?s still one thing they are dying for, and that is to eat pork meat, as we Papua New Guineans like to say, pig meat.
With no time wasted, Paulo and the other boys headed into the village and bought a pig from one of the villagers, and carried it back to the creek where they had to clean and cut before taking it up to the guest house. But it looks like the trekkers were really looking forward to a local life style and how meal are prepared in local styles, so the minute , the boys brought the pig down to the creek, it was a relief, the trekkers knew they were going to have pig meat tonight. Other trekkers helping the boys cut and wash, while others sat and watched as Paulo explains how it is done, most found it very interesting and could not wait to see how the end results were going to be like. So yep! Definitely this bunch of trekkers will have a pork dinner tonight, what they have all been waiting for since they started.
Otherwise, all trekkers are ok, did well and still looking fit. Weather, well not so bad a bit cloudy, but the sun is trying it?s best to come through.
Seen here, a trekker very much interested, to know how the villagers in Menari build their little huts, beside him is a porter explaining.

This group is now up at Brigade Hill, having a lunch break and soon will proceed down to Efogi 1 village, where they will or might camp for the night. All trekkers are well and still enjoying the trek. When I spoke to their guide Paulo, I asked what they thought about the pig or pork dinner they had last night and he said, they loved it; they finished everything, even the soap. So yeah that was something.Other than that, weather doesn?t look too good; the sky is mostly dominated with dark clouds, so it looks like its going to rain.
I have a message here that was sent by the following two trekkers to their family back home. This same message is also sent to the family?s email, so if any one of you is reading this, please also check it in your emails.

All trekkers and porters are now in Efogi 1. At this time, they are experiencing heavy rain, so most or I should say the whole lot of them are huddled under a wind-house sheltering themselves from the pouring rain.A decision is yet to be made whether or not they will spend the night at Efogi 1 or continue to Efogi 2 or which ever campsite they prefer. They all think, there?s still enough time to make another move, one step further, but it seems the rain won?t give them that escape chance. So, right now, I don?t know whether the group will spend the night in Efogi 1, but until I get a confirmed report, I?ll post up their latest on the website; otherwise, the group now resides in Efogi 1.
Other then that, all did great today, none of the trekkers are facing or having problems, and all are doing terrific and having a great time. They are all well and still in good spirit.

Although, the group still had the strength to continue on yesterday, the rain did not give them much of a chance to do so, which the group did not have a choice but to spend the night at Efogi 1.This morning saw them up bright again and ready for yet another long day of walk. They are planning on spending the night at Templeton?s Crossing 1, and from there, will proceed to their next destination tomorrow. But again they are not sure, it seems they are heading to the direction of heavy rain weather, and if they come across it, and it doesn?t allow them to move on, they might as well camp at Myola Junction and that, all are not looking forward to, but we?ll see how they go.
Otherwise, all trekkers are well, still looking fit and strong, and ready to hit the track again. At the moment, they are having a break up at Naduri village.
Also, Martin was soooo happy to receive a reply from, Debbie, Leah and Tom, the only reply i got from him, was a "Huhhhhh……., thanks Jessie."

MemberUpdate 5th August, 2005:
Tonight trekkers slept at Eora Creek along with two of our other treks. According to our guide, the trekkers want to get out early off the trail and stay for a bit in Kokoda and have a look around.
Also there was a trek led by another guide by the name of Glen who is walking towards Ower's Corner. At the campsite also is a lone trekker by the name of Angus with our two guys we sent with him by the name of Tony Evari & Tom.
I am sure there would have been a lot of singing tonight when all the boys got together as they are always excited to meet up with each other

Congratulations to all the trekkers, they have finally completed their trek. They slept at Deniki look-out point last night and today started off as early as 7am. All trekkers did great they are all fine and very much happy and excited that they?ve completed their trek, and yes they all should be.They were welcomed by the traditional sing-sing group from Kokoda, as they entered the station, and were led to Russell?s family block which is about another 10 to 15 minutes walk.
Back at Russell?s family block, the group was greeted and welcomed by the family who prepared a big lunch for the trekkers and porters who arrived after 8 hard days of walk.
The group will spend the night at Russell?s family block this evening and tomorrow will do a lot of driving around, so keep an eye out for their updates.
Well again, Congratulations to you all.
Traditional Dancing group welcoming trekkers, has they walk into Russell's family block.
