MemberAs we had two treks heading out today, it was decided to get the 6 night 7 day trek away at 6am as they had a big day and that this trek would head out to Bomana War Cemetery around 9:30am. Everything went ahead as planned and when I spoke to Pat he had his trekkers organised and about to move off from their accommodation.
However, there was a hickup with the boys as their flight from Popondetta to Kokoda was cancelled yesterday which meant we had the trekkers in town but not their porters. At 6pm last night I head from our boys in Popondetta that they were going to have to sleep at the airport and try their luck again this morning. Not long after receiving the news they were stuck in the Oro Province and could not get to Port Moresby, the airline staff contacted me saying they would be on the 2nd flight today arriving in Port Moresby around 2pm. So other standby staff in Port Moresby were on hand to walk the trekkers into their overnight campsite and have our staff play catchup when they arrived later in the day.
This morning, luck was on our side as they were in fact put on the morning flight and arrived in Port Moresby about the same time their trekkers were heading to Bomana War Cemetery. Both Pat and ourselves were relieved and I am sure the boys too as the airport is not the best place to be stuck and of course they would not have had any food. So arrive they did; food in their bellies and out to Bomana War Cemetery they headed to meet with their trekkers who they would accompany across the track for the next 7 nights and 8 days.
When our group reached Owers' Corner we found 2 big groups and ourselves about to all leave Owers' Corner to head to Goodwater campsite area. Our group got away first but they decided to pull up at Goldie River rather than share the campsite with a large crowd. When I spoke to Pat several trekkers were in the river enjoying a swim. Today was a short one, tomorrow will be a big day so more than likely they are all tucked away asleep next to the river listening to Sione and the boys singing them to sleep.

MemberWhen Pat phoned this afternoon it had just started pouring rain. This group are now at Ioribaiwa Village and it seems they had a good day with no problems with any trekker and according to him, doing all doing well.
Pat said they are sharing the area with one other group that starting the same time at Owers' Corner. During the course of the morning this group were walking faster than the others and passed them as they climbed their way to their destination. One of the other groups who started at the same time frame decided to keep walking and stopped at Ofi Creek.

MemberTrekkers had a tough day today as they climbed up Maguli Range. They walked through Naoro Village and headed down to Agulogo for the night where they are sharing the campsite next to the river with another trekking company walking in the opposite direction.
All trekkers continue to do well. According to Pat, its fine weather which is good news for trekkers unless they wanted to experience walking in the wet.
Tomorrow they will reach the half way point of Efogi.

MemberThis trek 1 day behind the others who left on the same day, is now where they left from this morning, at Templeton's Crossing. Pat had an important question to ask on behalf of some of his trekkers, who WON THE AFL FINAL?
I was able to tell them. However, they asked me who won the NRL? As I did not watch the game and was not in front of my computer, well they will have to wait for the answer to that question. I spoke with Adam and he said they are having a great time. According to Pat they are making good time, everyone is fit and doing well.

MemberPat phoned in from Alola and again just now at 3:45 from Isurava Memorial. He said all trekkers are ok and looking forward to walking off the track tomorrow. He was still asking about the NRL footy scores, when I informed him 40 Roosters, 14 Knights he sounded surprised and said he would let the porters know. So now wondering if it was the trekkers or the porters asking for the score! Tomorrow morning the group will have a service at the memorial before heading off to the finish line in Kokoda.
All tents have been set up for the night ahead and then trekkers will no doubt relax and tuck into some food before their last sleep on the trail. Go trek 856 – almost there…..
