On arrival at Jackson's airport we met up with our latest group of trekkers who arrived at different times throughout the afternoon. The first to arrive was Beth on a 12:20 flight and the last to arrive were three trekkers around 5pm. The first group of five were driven out to Bomana War Cemetery and then dropped off at Sogeri Lodge.
The last group of 3, we dropped off ourselves and then caught up with the whole group after arrival at Sogeri Lodge.
Two guys in our vehicle were looking forward to catching up with their friend Cameron who they had not seen for quite awhile.
Having spent some time with these trekkers, I feel they will all get along and combine well to have an enjoyable trek. This group is made up of:
[*]Mike Smith
[*]Amanda Wilkins – walking with Wayne Urina Tihimi as her personal porter
[*]Cameron Haynes
[*]Nicolas Jones
[*]Corey Smith
[*]Kevin Isaacs
[*]Beth Way
[*]Adam ConwellLate 2011 we ran a competition on our Kokoda Trekking Facebook page and Amanda Wilkins was the lucky winner receiving as her prize $1000 off her trek. It was nice last night to finally meet her in person as it was announced early January and just now in October is she about to head out on the track.

MemberThe guide for this trek is Kingsley Boropi. As I type this, our vehicle is heading up to Sogeri Lodge to pick up the trekkers and drop them at Owers' Corner.
No doubt by now as they sit around having their breakfast they will be feeling a little nervous perhaps but looking forward to the day ahead of them.
As the majority of this group are carrying their own backpacks there was plenty of talk last night amongst the group as to the weight they were each carrying.
We informed them if they were going to yell for a personal porter they had better do it quickly as the remainder of our boys fly home tomorrow morning back to Kokoda.

MemberThe first night on the track was spent at Ua'Ule Creek. Kevin asked for a personal porters but all the others are toughing it out and doing well it seems.
Trekkers had a tough day today as they climbed up Maguli Range. I thought they may have pulled up at Ofi Creek but according to their guide, they were going to push on to either Naoro or Agulogo depending on how the group were going. The mud on the track is supposed to be drying up but if not, like these trekkers they might still run into some.

MemberTrekkers are now heading to Efogi where no doubt they will feel proud of themselves knowing they have reached the half way point. If they stop at Landy Noel's guesthouse they will enjoy their first sleep on a mattress since leaving Sogeri Lodge and possibly a massage should they take advantage of whats on offer there. Often trekkers have villagers pass them on the track who make walking it look easy like the photograph below.

MemberTrekkers have now reached Efogi the half way point so will be pretty pleased with themselves by now I would imagine. Apparently all trekkers are doing well according to Wayne who phoned me a short while ago. Earlier today they walked up Brigade Hill before heading down to Efogi.

MemberTrekkers spent last night at Kovelo and this morning will walk off the track into Kokoda. No doubt they will be excited as they walk towards the Kokoda archway knowing they have successfully completed their trek.
As with past trekkers, at this point some do not mind our staff dressing them traditionally with flowers in their hair etc as per the photograph below.
