MemberI had the pleasure of meeting our latest trekker Lionel Jardine yesterday when I picked him up from the airport. Lionel who is retired set himself a goal of riding his bike from Brisbane to Cairns before coming to PNG to commence his trek across the Kokoda Track.
It seems he has walked the track before so knows what preparation he needed to complete a successful trek. What makes Lionel different however, is that he intends to walk over to Kokoda from Owers' Corner and then spend a couple of days resting there before he turns around and walks back to Owers' Corner on the 21st or 22nd May depending on how much rest he needs at the other end.
After driving around with him yesterday I could sense his determination to do what he set out to do.
It was decided to pick him up at 6:15am this morning and head out to the drop off point at Owers' Corner. Everything went ahead as planned.

MemberThe guide for this trek is Tarina Bore. Unfortunately shortly after Lionel walked off from the archway he slipped and fell. He decided to give it a go but has just called up and said he will come back and rest his ankle for a couple of days and then re-consider his options whether to walk or not.
