At Owers' Corner Harold Hauro met his trekker Kylie Cook. John McMillan also met with Fordy Suma who would accompany him on the track. A special bond was already formed as Fordy had taken the initiative to carve a walking stick for him prior to his arrival from Kokoda. This stick was given to John who immediately took a liking to it.
