This group left Owers' Corner earlier today bound for Kokoda but not before we experienced a few hickups. Two trekkers missed their flight to PNG! End result was that they managed to find another flight out of Cairns that arrived here in PNG at 7:30am. So the plan last night changed from an early start this morning so we could wait and meet these trekkers to drive them up to Sogeri. Two trekkers decided to stay in town at the Gateway Hotel. After we met with the two trekkers, the other two were picked up and not too long afterwards, we were heading to Sogeri Lodge.

On arrival, Kane Mifsud looked relieved to meet up with his brother and well Christian Gurry was just pleased to be still walking I think judging by the look on his face earlier this morning.

After arriving at Sogeri Lodge, trekkers started getting organised to move off and we were soon ready to move but not before a group photograph was taken of the group who include :

    • Rachael Reimers
    • Matthew Reimers
    • Renee Roberts
    • William O'Donnell
    • Kelly Freeman
    • Pamela Bennington
    • Annie Lydon
    • Tony Lydon
    • Celene Black
    • Justin Owers
    • Ryan Mifsud
    • Kane Mifsud
    • David King
    • Sarah Addison
    • Christian Gurry
    • Matt Backshall

The photograph below was taken minutes before the bus departed from Sogeri Lodge:

At Owers' Corner it was time to meet their personal porters so they could pack their own belongings their packs in readiness for the departure down the first descent to Goldie River.

One of the fastest men on the track Jessie Aire met with Pamela Gennington. Jessie came in 3rd in one of our previous races but this year could not stay awake and slept at Templeton's area causing him to finish in about 9th position:

It was not too long after that Annie's daughter Celene Black met up with Horace Yauga who came 3rd in this years Kokoda Challenge Race. He promises not to make her keep up with him!

The fastest man on the Kokoda Track, Brendan Buka met with his trekker Sarah Addison. Brendan has successfully defended his title four times in a row and when trekkers reach Kokoda they will truly understand just how hard it is to complete the track in 16 hours 34 minutes:

Wallace Lemeki is the guide for this trek. He spoke to trekkers and our staff sang their national anthem and with Sione on the guitar and leading the way, he also sang our Australian Anthem along with trekkers joining in.

Last by not least, the guys carrying their own backpacks! These guys were thinking they should have gone first before those with personal porters but were happy all the same to pose for the trek hero photograph showing them carrying their packs, well done guys:
