Boss Meri
MemberLast night I met with the two trekkers who headed out on a PNG led trek today from Owers' Corner by the name of Kevin Oakley and John O'Dwyer. Unfortunately a backpack went missing in transit in Australia which found them in a Target store shopping for shirts/shorts/socks with a 15 minutes time span before they had to head to the airport for their flight to PNG. Apparently a young woman helped them out and they were on their flight.
We tell trekkers to make sure they wear their boots on their internal or international flight to PNG as clothes can easily be replaced but wearing a brand new pair of boots for the first time is not good – well thats if you can find a pair in PNG to begin with that are your size and are the right quality for trekking.
When I met with them at the Gateway Hotel it was agreed they would be picked up at 6:15am this morning and driven out to Bomana War Cemetery. This happened on time which was where I said my goodbye. Russell then drove them to Owers' Corner stopping at McDonald's Corner and I am led to believe they started walking around 8am. Today the plan is to reach Ua'Ule Creek.

MemberTrekkers last night reached Ua'Ule as per the plan and this morning were up early and on the move towards Nauro Village where they are tonight. I heard from John Derrick when he was at Maguli Range. He said his trekkers and porters were doing well with no problems whatsoever and were looking forward to the day ahead of them.

MemberUpdate 26th August: Trekkers have now reached an area between 1900/Myola Junction and Templeton's I referred to as 'Dump 1' where they are spending the night. They are slightly ahead of the other group that commenced walking the same day from Owers' Corner.

MemberUpdate 27th August: We have not heard exactly where they are today but we are assuming they are at Alola Village as my son Shane is at Eora Creek and they have passed past this point. I am thinking they may even try and get off the track a day early and arrive in Kokoda tomorrow. Will keep you posted as soon as I hear more from the track.

MemberJust a few minutes ago at 11:15am another of our guys phoned in from Deniki and said they were walking on and the plan was to walk off the track but the final decision is always with the trekkers. Apparently there has been quite a bit of rain so I guess a lot of their gear will be wet.
Will hear later today what they decided to do as they are close to the finish line now and the boys can probably already smell their home cooked meals!
Photographs: Deniki area.

MemberHave just arrived back at the office after meeting up with the group at the Gateway Hotel. They all appeared to enjoy their adventure and were in good spirits. We dropped John off at the airport for him to book in and later caught up with him again around 1:15pm as his memory card would not work and he took photographs on my camera. A quick transfer from my card to his did the trick and we were soon back at the airport to do the handover. I will post a couple of the photographs here now for you all.
