Memberjust spent a while catching up with all the news from the last 2 days. Been away in Sydney so no PC to keep up to date on. Very sorry to hear of Peter's knee issue & the bad weather not allowing an air evacuation. How right Jane is about the Fuzzie Wuzzie's – Peter has his very own personal ones
Hope everyone else is doing well esp Tony & Nathan H. Hope the bonding is going well
Thinking of Lea & Isaiah (on the track) & Liberty (at home) today on Ralphie's birthday. He is with you every step of the way & is so very proud of his family.
Please take care everyone but keep enjoying.

MemberUpdate 5:30pm 7th Sept: With regards to the trekkers, they have now reached Hoi Village where they are spending the night. Tomorrow as planned they will walk off the track. I have spoken to both Amy and Leah and they both informed me that everything today, whilst sad, all went ahead as planned and was a very special moment at Isurava for them all.
Amy mentioned that her father felt rather silly that he had damaged his knee and could not continue. So much has happened these past couple of hours that I do not know where to start. Firstly around 4pm the helicopter pilot Michael informed both myself and the insurance company that he tried again but it was just too dangerous to go through the Kokoda Gap so had no choice then to abort the mission. He said he could try again tomorrow but the weather did not look like it was going to lift and felt it would be a waste of time.
So plan b) has been actioned. As I type this, the councillor of Haila Village has arranged for 8 of his boys plus himself to walk to a village by the name of Abuari where they will spend the night. Tomorrow morning at first light they will add another 3 boys to walk down to Eora Creek to meet with Peter and Trevor making 11 in total. They with the help of Brendan Buka will then carry him off the track via the short cut down a couple of very steep mountains but it should take around 3-4 hours instead of 8 hours + walking in the same direction as the trekkers.
Our truck will be waiting for them at Kanadara Village and will drive him to our base in Kokoda. The insurance company is then planning on airlifting him out of Kokoda back to Port Moresby for medical treatment after he arrives at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat which is situated adjacent to the airstrip.
Brendan Buka on the other hand is with the trekkers at Hoi Village. He is now going to walk from that direction to Eora Creek to inform Trevor and Peter tonight what the plan is for tomorrow. Brendan said he was having problems with his torch but after speaking with Leah this was soon not a problem as one of them will loan him a torch.
So yes, the 'Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels' of today will get him safely to Kokoda sometime tomorrow.

MemberHi Leah & Isaiah
Found these beautiful words and they say it all…
When I feel alone I look into the stars at night
and I feel I am in the presence of those
I have loved and are not with us anymore.
When the breeze touches my face
I feel their wings fanning me with wisdom
and I take comfort in this awareness.
Have faith the one you love is
now on their special journey;
Take courage and strength from
those around you and
when times seem hard to bear,
look into the stars at night,
feel the gentle breeze and take comfort
that the one you loved
is not only in your heart and in your memories,
but all around youOur thoughts have been with you all day and we've shed a tear but now it's time to have a beer!!!! or two
Congratulations on making your dream a reality and to share this with Isaiah…
To the rest of the team…well done..while we have sat here on our backsides, you guys 'n' gals have been busting yours to share this special time with Leah and Isaiah..

MemberHi Leah, Isaiah and all trekkers,
Like everyone else we have had our sad moments today, but are now trying to focus on the positive and celebrate the lovely memories of Darryl we treasure. Things are going well here – haven't been late for anything; we are a good team. Your team is great in the way you are all supporting each other. You are all doing so well and every step brings you closer to your goal – the end of the journey. We keep wondering whether you are dry and comfortable when you go to bed at night but have agreed you are probably so tired you would be able to sleep anywhere.
God bless you all and safe trekking
Miss you

MemberHello again Leah Isaiah and Bronco,
Just got home from the late shift at work and have been catching up on al the messages. Wow there are so many. Sorry to hear about Peters injuries, hope the evacuation goes ahead smoothly. Year 7s performed a great assembly this morning. Liberty took part and did very well. The assembly focused on being positive which i thought was so apprpriate for this time.
I have thought about you all heaps today and Darryl would just be so proud of you and Isaiah. You are an inspiration to us all.
Take extra care in these bad weather conditions. We will have a beer for Darryl and you soon.Love Karen, Glenn, Grace, Madi, Jilly and Alice. xxxxxx

MemberUpdate 8th September: Congratulations are in order for Trek 659 as they walked off the track earlier this morning and at the present time are relaxing at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. I just spoke to my son Shane over there and there was lots of talking and laughter in the background so assume they are one happy group of people at the moment.
As for Peter, we have still not got word that they have got him off as yet but will post something as soon as we hear from them. The villagers from Haila who have gone in to help along with some from Abuari Village are experienced in carrying people as there place is so remote that if they are sick and need to go to the hospital, its the only option for them to be carried.
Will report as soon as I hear something.
