Update 4th September: Trekkers were on the move around 7am this morning and walked as far as Efogi II before they called it a day which was approximately 1:30pm this afternoon. Sounds like Trevor decided to give them a short day today. Tomorrow the plan is to head to Templeton's I commonly referred to nowadays as 'Dump 1'.

Have heard also that John is in town and I have arranged to meet up with him tonight at 6pm at the Holiday Inn.

    hi Leah IsaiH
Liberty had a really good game at basketball today only lost by 2 points – it was great to watch. All the trainig has worked wonders. The Mums were all asking how the trekkers were getting on; mostly they thought it was all too much for them.
We have watched every night for your progress when we finally worked out how to use it. Liberty is the computer expert.
Have you encountered many snakes, spiders or any wildlife? From the pictures we believe you have needed to use your poles – what rough terrain! We had no doubt that Isaiah would be good at this trekking; we are so proud of you both. Keep safe; we love & miss you both

As you will see from the photograph below, Leah's father John Johnson on his way to board his flight from Port Moresby to Popondetta around 6:30am this morning. He was met by our driver Richard Aire and at the present time is being driven by road up to Kokoda where he will overnight at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat.

Tomorrow, Monday, he will commence his walk up to Isurava to meet up with the group heading in the opposite direction. He seemed pumped up and read to go but does not know the first big hill that awaits him. Its nickname is 'test mountain' coz its a bugger to test ones fitness before you finally conquer the hill. Then once he arrives at the top and continues his walk he will know that he will also have to walk back down the hill on his return to Kokoda which is equally challenging as some people find going down harder then walking up.

John will have as his porter, the trek hero, Brendan Buka who walked a couple of years ago with a guy who turned 70 on the track and who is also a regular contributor to our website, Brian Beamish. Brian proved quite a handful but Brendan got him from Owers' to Kokoda so we are confident he will do his best to enable John to complete the task ahead of him. For those of you who do not know, Brendan holds the track record in both directions:

Owers' to Kokoda: 16 hours 34 minutes
Kokoda to Owers': 17 hours 25 minutes

When your family arrive back home, just ask them how remarkable these times are! and you will know 'why' trekkers stop him on the track to be photographed with him.

    Hi Isaiah and Leah,

It is raining and its very muddy in Ipswich, I hope it is'nt muddy on the track. It looks like a lot of walking. Have you seen any snakes. I hope not.
