MemberEleven Trekkers headed out to Owers' Corner earlier today to commence their walk to Kokoda, They will be joined at the other end at Isurava Memorial area by Leah's father who will fly into Popondetta and travel by road up to Kokoda and then walk with Brendan Buka to meet up with them.
All trekkers looked in good spirits today as they headed off on their adventure. Trekkers in this group include :
- Leah Engler and her son Isaiah
- Anthony Roe
- Peter Rayfield
- Amy Rayfield
- Shane Benson
- Lachlan Roe
- Nathan Herald
- Tony Herald
- Chris Van Den Bergh
- Paul Fraser
The plan was to pick them up at 6:30am and that by the time we loaded the backpacks and hit the road it would be close on 7am by the time we departed from the Gateway Hotel. As it turned out we were pretty much on target as I looked at my watch when we drove through the entrance and it was on 6:55am.

MemberAfter we drove off from Bomana War Cemetery someone in the car mentioned the waterfall around the area so we stopped at Rouna Falls so they could check it out which again provided a photo opportunity for them.

MemberWhen we reached Owers' Corner, those trekkers who requested personal porters were introduced to them and we took the following photographs so you can see just who will be walking alongside of them along the track.

MemberThis was followed by a group photograph which included all the porters on their trek. This was taken on the opposite side of the archway. Its quite funny as even the experts can't make up their minds. One side says 'Kokoda Trail' and the other side of the archway states 'Kokoda Track'.

MemberOur staff then stood up and formed a group to sing two songs, one their PNG National Anthem and another song in their language that they wrote about walking the track whilst trekkers waited patiently to move off.
