MemberLast night saw us meet up with a lone trekker from NSW at the Gateway Hotel. He looked keen and eager to go.
This morning I collected him from the Gateway and drove him to Bomana War Cemetery. Our driver and truck turned up not long afterwards to drive him and our boys up to the starting point at Owers' Corner. His name is Craig Ferguson and he is carrying all the way himself so is out for the challenge and some history thrown in along the way. His guide is Winnie Pore and walking with them is Glen Henson who is also one of our guides. They are best mates so I am sure Craig will enjoy himself with these two guys.
The following photographs were taken at Bomana War Cemetery around 8:15am this morning.

MemberThe guide for this trek is Winnie Pore (bottom photograph) from Kokoda and has his friend Glen Henson (directly below) along as the food porter. Glen is a guide in his own right and has walked for us quite often over the past few years.

Member8th October: Craig is now in Efogi the half way point and is doing really well according to Winnie who phoned in today. They have gathered up the remainder of their food rations at Efogi and now look forward to walking out in Kokoda.
All three appear to be having a great time going by the way Winnie spoke today.

How was the camping been? Have you been over a river yet? We have just been fishing with Ferg and no luck! Oscar is having a good sleep and Thomas is downstairs doing something. Aunty Mel is showing us on a map where you are. Me and Mel are going to have a crab tonight and nobody else is getting any!!!

Member9th October: Have had confirmation today that Craig and our two guys have now reached Myola Junction commonly referred to as 1900. It will be a cold night tonight so I am sure he will be snuggled up inside his tent in his sleeping bag.
All three are having a great time it seems. Tomorrow they head to Eora Creek.

Member10th October: Craig must have struggled in the later stages yesterday as they did not quite make where they were heading. This morning around 6:30am I received sat phone call but it was very hard to hear what was being said.
I did hear that they would be at Templeton's Crossing area tonight not Eora Creek which indicated they are going to give him a shorter day today.

Come on Big fella – you can do it Craig!!!! a slow and steady pace – wins the race – not that its a race but …… I guess you must have been absorbing the history and the atmosphere of the jungle up there
