MemberTwo female trekkers left Owers' Corner earlier today on a 6 day trek planning to reach Kokoda on the 30th September. Last night I met up with them at the Gateway Hotel and they appeared to be experienced trekkers who were looking forward to another trek.
Trekkers on this trek are as follows:
Sharon Jendrzejczak and her friend Julia McKay
They were down for a 6:30am start and when I arrived they were having breakfast but were soon ready to hit the road to Bomana War Cemetery but not before I took the following photograph.

MemberOn arrival at Owers' Corner they met up with their guide Dudley Bubara, personal porter Dominic and their food porter.
Various photographs were taken under the archway and then trekkers commenced their first descent towards Goldie River.

Member27th September: Dudley their guide called in from Maguli Range yesterday to say they spent the first night at Ioribaiwa Village and that they were heading for Manari to spend last night.
He said the girls are going great and are quite fast. He added that it had been raining quite a bit and the track was wet.
Will post more as we hear from them again.

Member28th September: Trekkers have now reached the village of Efogi. The last contact we had with our guide was that they were undecided whether or not to head on to Naduri or to spend the night at Efogi.
Sharon indicated she wanted to extend an extra day and where possible fly back in on the 2nd October and not the 1st. We went and checked with the airline and it seems possible that they can fly in a day later if they do not finish in time.
Apart from that they were doing ok but the thought of another long day was obviously playing on Sharon's mind when possibly it could be avoided.

MemberIts been confirmed that the girls have split up. Last night Sharon was at Templeton's Crossing and Julia spent the night at Isurava and will walk off the track today as per the previous plan.
Sharon will more then likely be at Isurava tonight and will walk off the track the following day.
Both trekkers continue to do ok just that Julia wanted to add an extra day.

Member30th September: We have not long received a phone call from a guy by the name of Dominic who is walking with Julia to say they were at Kovello and heading for Kokoda. After a short look around the Kokoda Station, they will walk down to our base in Kokoda commonly referred to as 'Orohaven Kokoda Retreat'.
Also heard from Dudley who is now at the back walking with Sharron to say they have reached Alola village and will walk into Isurava Monument area later today.

Member1st October: Julia as planned arrived back in off a flight earlier today where we met up with her. She appeared pretty pleased with herself to have completed the trek in '5' days and carrying her own pack. Well done Julia.
As I write this, she is on her way back to Australia.
With regards to Sharron, she arrived at our base Orohaven Kokoda Retreat mid morning and is relaxing there before trying to fly back in tomorrow.
As she has changed her original plans, we ourselves do not have a flight booked for tomorrow but there are at least four charters with other companies. I have asked for '1' seat for her on one of the flights so fingers crossed it all goes well and she arrives back in town in time for her scheduled flight back to Australia.
Orohaven will be a busy place today as we had 9 trekkers who flew in along with Soc Kienzle for their trek commencing tomorrow. Ten trekkers also came off the trek today who walked out in the same direction as Sharron and Julia.
So all in all, a large group of people 20 in all who are spending the night at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat. The last I heard was that the ones who came off the track today were in celebration mood and the new arrivals heading out tomorrow had gone swimming in the large river where Soc grew up as a child.
With regards to Julia, yesterday my son Shane took her motor bike riding around Kokoda and for a swim in the same river mentioned above. She mentioned how she got strange looks and waves as she rode past the local people on the 125cc bike she was riding.
Julia also mentioned that she had no idea that we had such a retreat in Kokoda and that she was pleasantly surprised….being the only guest she also got to sleep in the double bed!
