A lone trekker by the name of David Cummins is now on the track having commenced yesterday from Owers' Corner. He is in the company of Kingsley Boropi (no stranger to villagers as he has walked quite often) along with another couple of porters.

The day before I met David I was up at the Gateway Hotel when the reception staff informed me that there was an urgent message for me to phone the Ela Beach Hotel. I was surprised when I made contact to find out it was in relation to David as I was expecting to find him at another hotel.

We agreed to catch up yesterday and I drove him out to Bomana War Cemetery as we had a bit of time to kill due to the boys having to fly in from Kokoda on our charter that morning.

The trek then got away from Bomana around 10am and I heard later from our driver that it was a fun slippery ride out to Owers' Corner the drop off point.

26th June: We have not heard from the track as the radio network continues to play up. Kingsley the guide is carrying a sat phone so if he needs to he can always contact us.

The photographs below were taken on the day of departure from Owers' Corner:

Unfortunately no up dates as the radio network remains out of order but we assume by now they are now at the half way point of Efogi. Will post something as soon as I hear from the track. They are carrying a sat phone so if anything was wrong they would have contacted us.

30th June: Congratulations to David who walked off the track today. At the present time he is at Orohaven and will fly back to Port Moresby on a flight come Thursday.

Sorry there have not been more up dates as the radio network remains down. Today I received the following message from the Kokoda Track Authority, CEO:

    Gail,

I have had TE electronics looking at the problem and spoke to Steve Groves yesterday. The issue seems to be the repeater station and I've asked Steve to get it fixed ASAP and I'm waiting for him to get back to me with his plan.

It will mean he has to chopper to the tower, fix it and stay overnight, then have the chopper pick him up the next day. I am hopeful he will be able to go up later this week.

I would expect to have the timings etc tomorrow. Once I have that I will advise all tour operators of the solution and timings.

    Cheers

    Rod Hillman
    Chief Executive

As David has walked off the track one day early, we trust he will enjoy his extra time in Kokoda. Fred (our cook, come Manager) will no doubt ensure he is fed and well looked after at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat:
