Last Sunday, we met with two backpackers who were looking forward to walking the Kokoda Track. Seeing as their guide and porters were already in town, it was decided they head out on the 9th for a short walk down to Goldie River to overnight.

Last night they were at Ua'Ule Creek. Trekkers include :

    • Fred Lazell
    • Josh Edwards

Unfortunately all my cameras were on the track so we used one of the older ones but the quality is not so good so my apology.

Tonight they have reached Nauro Village. Cyprian their guide called up earlier this afternoon and his assistant Arnold also called around 7pm to report they are all happy and trekking ok.

Tomorrow they will head down to Menari for a short day. The next day will also be a short day to Efogi the half way point. When talking to these guys before they headed out, they mentioned they wanted to experience being out on the track mixing with people in the villages and enjoying the moment. By all accounts, it seems like they are doing just that.

Today our guide called in from the other side of Efogi to say they were all doing ok and going ahead as per plan. He said the weather had been kind to them and that the two young guys appeared to be having a great time.

Unless they changed their mind they were planning on spending the night at Efogi II.

16th May:The guys have been having such a good time out on the track that they forgot to call in. Seriously, I just heard from Cyprian today and he assured me that everything was ok and that they were at Deniki at the time and were heading to Kovelo to spend the night.

Tomorrow they will walk out into Kokoda and down to Orohaven Kokoda Retreat.

17th May: Trekkers spent the day relaxing at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat yesterday having successfully completing their trek. After talking with them on the phone, they assured me they had a great time an an experience of a lifetime. They commented on what a great bunch of boys they walked with as they thoroughly enjoyed their company.

18th May: This morning it took a bit to wake up our two english lads it seems as they were enjoying the feel of a bed after so many days out in the bush on the Kokoda Trail.

However they finally woke up and climbed aboard our truck KTL2 for their drive down to Guria (Popondetta) airport. I caught up with them around midday when their flight landed in Port Moresby. Just like the day before they were pumped up and ready to talk about their time on the track.

It really sounded like they had a wow of a time and enjoyed every minute of it.

We did a bit of driving around town including before heading out to Bomana War Cemetery and then on to their accommodation at the Sogeri Lodge on the outskirts of Port Moresby where they stayed before walking the track.

The photograph below was taken at Guria airport before they caught the Dash 8 aircraft.
