This morning we said goodbye to a group comprising of two women and one guy who headed out to Kokoda. Emma flew in from Hong Kong and Steven and Shayne came all the way from England. Their guide is Cyprian Haera entered our Kokoda Challenge Race and is renowned as a 20 hour runner but promises not to take them that fast over the track. Trekkers include :

    • Emma Matthew
    • Steven Matthew
    • Shayne Trimnell-Ritchard

The plan was for them to commence walking after arriving in Kokoda and to head to Isurava Monument where they would spend the night however we have not heard from the track so they may have only reached Isurava Village.

5th May: Trekkers have been on the go so much that our guide has been getting in late to campsites and not being able to radio in. However, today at Naduri he called to say that they were all doing ok and were going to head to Menari where they planned on spending the night.

So far, so good to get out on Thursday. The last overnight will be at Ioribaiwa.

6th May: Trekkers reached Naoro Village where they are spending the night. Instead of coming out on Thursday they have now decided on Friday as they did not get as far today as they had intended.

7th May: Today trekkers will push on down to Goldie River where they intend to spend the night before walking off the track on Friday morning. The two women are doing ok but Steve who is carrying his own pack struggled a bit yesterday but is doing ok

When we spoke to Cyprian their guide, he sounded like he was enjoying this trek and the challenge it put to the team as a whole.

8th May: Congratulations Trek 551 you did it!

We wish to advise that trekkers were picked up earlier today and arrived back in Port Moresby around mid afternoon. I did not have the chance to catch up with them but managed to speak to Emma on the telephone.

She informed me that they were all WRAPPED in their trek and that they can't wait to get back home to inform all their friends about their time in PNG and out on the Kokoda Track.

Emma raved and raved about her experience and seemed to just love being out there. Emma also commented over and over again about our KTL staff. I think it only sank in after a couple of days on the track that they were doing it in less days then they initially figured which is why they stretched it to another day.

Steve it seems was suffering from blisters on his feet but is ok according to Emma.

On behalf of all of us here at Kokoda Trekking, thanks for choosing to walk with us and our team.
