Under the leadership of Johnsford Eroro, four trekkers were picked up earlier today from their respective hotels to be driven out to Owers' Corner to commence their trek. On this trek we have three Australian's and one guy all the way from Sweden. His name is BO pronounced BOO. He is quite well travelled and has even been on the swedish rescue team for Mt Everest. Other trekekers appeared to relish this info as I could hear them talking to him as I drove the car to the drop off point. Their names are as follows:

    • Simon Hutchison
    • Bryan Mclachlan
    • Bo Sunnefeldt
    • Lisa Wheatley

The photographs below were taken at Bomana War Cemetery. Can you pick which one is BO. I heard one guy remark, his legs look like they have climbed a few mountains! Actually he is also a skier so this could help. At Owers' Corner I heard someone comment when he was introduced to his personal porter, you look so strong you could carry him.

On the way up to Sogeri we stopped so trekkers could stretch their legs and check out the waterfall so another photo opportunity presented itself.

Another stop was at the Sogeri Monument area where we took another group photograph:

Not long after the photograph was taken above, we hit the dirt road that leads to the drop off point at Owers' Corner.

On the way past we stopped to say hi to Fred at McDonald's Corner.

Once at Owers' Corner I had trekkers stand under the archway for a couple of photographs during the time our staff were getting prepared to move out.

It was soon time to meet their personal porters who would share the next few days of their lives walking with these trekkers.

After meeting their respective trekkers, it was time for porters to put into the packs the few items of their own clothing etc.

As mentioned in our information packs, you need to allow roughly 6 inches of space at the top of your packs so they can use this for their own gear to keep it dry so they too have some dry clothes etc to change into after they wash each night.

Some things they tie also on to the packs themselves.

Before the trek commenced trekkers and porters posed for a photograph under the archway:

It was soon time to move off and the following photographs were taken as they pass through the archway to head down the first descent to Goldie River.

Yes, there is a tongue out in this photograph, such was the concentration of the first few steps.

The guide for this trek is Johnsford Eroro, a quietly spoken guy but with lots of experience having walked a lot during the past few years. He is also the brother of Russell my business partner and John Derick Eroro who has walked several hundred times over the Kokoda Trail.

Assisting Johnsford is Justus Evari his brother in-law. Justus was one of our very first guides but left us 18 months ago to commence his own trekking business. This has not worked out and he once again approached us asking for work. Justus is a very experienced guide in his own right but has to start from the bottom to gain the respect of other guys who have remained loyal to Kokoda Trekking and who have not left thinking the grass was greener on the other side of the street.

The son of a policeman, Justus is often involved in settling incidents in Kokoda as he has a way of dealing with the local people and showing leadership.

Between Johnsford and Justus, trekkers will be well taken care of on the trek along with the personal porters and food porters selected to walk with them.
