Update 18th July: We received a sat phone call around midday today informing us that they spent the night at Efogi and today were pushing down to Eora Creek where they would spend the night.

Mick it seems will have to dig deep as he has been vomiting but they are close to the finish line now so doubt he will give up.

Tomorrow the plan is to walk out to Kokoda and overnight at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat and return to Port Moresby on Monday morning.

As for Warrick, I picked him up this morning and he went for a review at the doctor's clinic and is ok. He still feels like catching up on some sleep so with rest I am sure he will bounce back. Today he was looking and sounding much better then when I saw him yesterday so all is well but naturally he is disappointed and is already talking about coming back but next time hiring a personal porter.

Update 5:30pm 17th July: Sorry have not heard from the track today but have just returned home after picking Warrick up and dropping him at the Gateway Hotel. Before jumping on the phone to call him, we were advised their phones lines are not presently working. He has just booked in there for tonight and will think tomorrow whether or not he will continue staying there.

He is looking great! Tomorrow we will pick him up from the hotel at 9:30 to take him back for a review. If and when their phones are working you can call him on the following number:

    Gateway Hotel: +675 327 8100

    To Darren Howard

    Hi Darren,
I have been following your progress daily with interest. Hope all is going well with you as you are on the home straight now. It is such a good idea to be able to read the little daily reports on your progress. Really sorry to see that Warrick has had to pull out. I hope he is going to be alright.
I am not sure whether you receive these messages. Mikaela sent you a nice message on day one. We really liked being able to see the photos of your departure. Hope you are having fun and enjoying the trek.
    Mum x

Update 19th July: Whilst we have not heard from Kokoda today, we are assuming trek 529 walked out this afternoon off the track as they are expected to fly in to Port Moresby around 9:30 am 20th July.

Stay tuned for further updates after I meet the flight from Kokoda tomorrow morning. Warwick assures me he wants to be on hand to be at the airport for their arrival.

Update 20th July: Well done trek 529 as you walked off the track around 8pm last night into Kokoda in a worthy 5 days of trekking!

Approximately 10am they all arrived in Port Moresby and were driven to the Gateway Hotel in prepartion for three to fly off to Australia and the other two, Luke and Warrick flew mid afternoon back to Hong Kong.

No doubt all will have lots of stories to reflect on when back home with friends and relatives.

All (including Warrick) looked fit and healthy and were looking forward to getting back home.

On behalf of all of us here at Kokoda Trekking, thanks for choosing to walk with us and for enjoying the company of our KTL boys out on the track.

PS…Photograph just received 4th August from Darren Howard refer below:
