Boss Meri
MemberThis morning we collected from the Gateway Hotel and the Airways Hotel our latest group of trekkers to head out on the Kokoda Track.
We left Port Moresby around 8:30 and arrived at Owers' Corner a couple of hours later after slipping and sliding our way along the road that leads us to the drop off point. They all appeared to enjoy the drive and looked eager and keen to start walking the track.
Trekkers in this group include the following:
- Brendan Rhodes
- Katherine Gordon
- Matthew Kirby
- Andrew White
- Sheree Kemp
- Sarnia Symons
- Emma Stewart
- Amanda Kirby
- Shane Thomas

MemberWe have not heard where they reached today but were going to try and head to Ua'Ule Creek or what is commonly referred to as Dump 66.
They all looked like a pretty fit group with one woman carrying her own pack along with a couple of guys who took on the same challenge.

MemberSorry no up dates as I have not heard from the track as the radio network does not appear to be working.
They are carrying a sat phone so if needed to contact us urgently they could use that instead. So lets think on the positive side that they are powering along and doing well!

Member20th June: Have still not heard from this group however the trek one day ahead of them managed to get a message out from 1900 Myola Junction via sat phone to say that it was raining out on the track and that the solar batteries had not charged up re the radio network which is why it was not working.
However, like the group mentioned, trek 525 also have a sat phone so if there were any problems I am sure we would have heard from them by now.
Perhaps they are just finding it hard to get a signal due to the rain. All going well it should stop raining and the track radios will commence working again.
This trek also has my son Shane on it and one of the most experienced guides in Ernst who from memory is on his 50th trek so they are in good hands.
Will report as soon as I hear from them. Have worked out they should be in Efogi tonight, the half way point.

Member23rd June: Unfortunately the track radios continue to play up and we have not heard from our guide on a daily basis like we normally do.
We did hear that they had reached Efogi the half way point and that they were all ok and looking forward to completing their trek.
As I write this I am thinking they must be at Isurava Village tonight but they may surprise me and have decided to walk off the track today like the trekkers who commenced the day before them.
We have two charters heading out to Kokoda tomorrow so if this is the case we will soon find out when they return as they would have shared the same campsite at Orohaven tonight.
Will keep you posted as soon as I hear something.

Member24th June: We heard today that trek 525 walked into Kokoda this morning so congratulations are in order as they all successfully completed their trek.
Tonight they are staying as our guest at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat and tomorrow will return to Port Moresby by chartered aircraft and should arrive around 10am.

Member25th June: Trekkers arrived back in Port Moresby after a successful trek it seems as they were all bubbly and telling me all about their adventure and time on the Kokoda Track.
As you can see from the photograph below, they are all ok and smiles all round.
