MemberA group of Irish trekkers (who now call Australia home) headed out to Kokoda this morning to walk the Kokoda Track. A bit of bad luck followed their arrival as Katrina's bag did not turn up on the flight so at the last minute she was out trying to purchase a few things locally to make do.
Fortunately for Katrina, she has the same shoe size as myself so I was able to loan her a pair of Scarpa boots and thick socks. She managed to buy some clothes; we provided her with a backpack and off she went looking a little more relaxed then I can imagine she would have been upon learning her bag had not arrived from Australia.
As we have another flight heading over to Kokoda tomorrow morning, we will have someone walk it up to her. I can only think how her face will look when she sights her bag as Air Niugini have just phoned to say they have it here in Port Moresby waiting some someone from our office to call to collect.
Trekkers in this group include :
- Anthony Tormey
- Katrina Charlesworth
- Eamon Doohan
- Peter McGrath

MemberTrekkers were down for a 6:30am pickup from the Holiday Inn and looked keen and ready for the adventure that lay ahead of them. Peter well and truly knew as he has walked the track years ago and wonders what has changed.
Anthony Tormey hails from Cavill Avenue on the Gold Coast; Peter McGrath has his own motor repair business; Peter, Eamon Doohan and Katrina Charlesworth are all from Victoria.

MemberUpdate 8th September: Yesterday trekkers spent a relaxing day in Kokoda and I believe went down for a swim in a nearby creek. They slept at our Orohaven camp in Kokoda.

MemberUpdate 14th September: Sorry could not update yesterday as the internet was down. We wish to advise that trekkers have now reached Ua'Ule Creek and tomorrow plan to walk off the track one day early on Sunday instead of Monday.
The plan is to pick them up from Owers' Corner around 10:30am tomorrow morning. They should be back at their hotel around 1pm

MemberUpdate 14th September: Trekkers came up at Owers' Corner around 1:30pm today. They all joked around, ate some food and then we all left for the journey in to Port Moresby. This was all fun and games as it rained a little and we were behind two buses and one ute that kept getting bogged.
The trekkers were helping to push the vehicles up several hills just so we could get out ourselves Behind us were two guys who hired a 4WH and had never driven in such conditions. The end result was that Peter ended up driving their car out which I am sure gave him another highlight for him to talk about back home.
Photographs below were taken today, hope you enjoy them.
