MemberThis morning we picked up five of this group from the Gateway Hotel and drove them to Bomana War Cemetery. The other two members of this trek were collected direct from the airport after they arrived on a flight from Cairns and not long thereafter were united with others in their trek at Bomana War Cemetery.
List of Trekkers:
Tony Collins & his son Shaun Collins; Carl Butchard; Shane Catley; Dan Simpson; Alexa Wonnacott & Andrew Miller.

MemberHeading off down their first descent towards Goldie River:
The aim was to head for Ua'Ule Creek but no doubt we will hear tomorrow just how far they got.

Member4th June: We heard by sat phone that trekkers spent the night at Ua'Ule Creek on the first night they were on the track.
We did not hear from them today but assume they are somewhere around the Ofi Creek/Naoro Village area. We will report as soon as we hear from them.
Apparently Carl asked for a personal porter which was organised for him whilst on the track.

Member5 June 2009 11:10am Trek 511 radioed in from Manari after spending the night at Naoro. They are heading for Efogi, the Half Way Point where they will overnight. Both the Trekkers and Porters are doing fine.

Member6th June: Last night the group spent the night at Efogi and moved off today to 1900 Myola Junction. Shane ended up hiring a porter along with Carl.
Trekkers continue to do well and tomorrow should reach Eora Creek.

Member8th June: Last night trekkers spent the night at Alola Village and this morning we heard from them shortly after they arrived at the Isurava Monument area.
The plan today was to push down to Hoi Village and overnight. However, this morning we were advised that they want to walk out into Kokoda today and spend two nights there instead.
We should be able to advise later if they indeed walk off the track today or change their mind and have another night on the track.

MemberThis morning I can't help but think of them and wondering where they are. After leaving the Isurava monument they will walk down to Isurava Village and then make their way down off the mountain to the flat lands around Kovelo. The walk will take them through gardens of wild choko's across a few creeks and then out into the open space of Hoi Village.

Member8th June: Congratulations must go to trek 511 as they are now at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat having walked off the track this afternoon one day earlier than expected, well done!
A short time ago I heard they had just ordered 6 pizza's so must be feeling hungry after their days walk.
Perhaps tomorrow they will take a walk around Kokoda with some of our staff or just relax, have time to clean their gear in readiness for their flight to Port Moresby on Wednesday morning.
